Trying to Understand Print Credit Coupon
I'm trying to understand what happens with a Print Credit Coupon. What I want to do is give a client a $25 coupon to order what they want from their gallery. If they end up using it on a couple of orders that is fine with me.

What I don't want to have happen is them to use it multiple times ($25 + $25, etc) or us it and also pass the code on to someone else.

I can't seem to make the coupon one time use (form won't allow it).

    Any help appreciated.

Print credit coupons are very much like a gift card. Once they're created and issued, they possess the dollar amount you originally specified. They can be used once, twice, or a hundred times UNTIL that dollar amount is used up, then that code is done. This is why you're not able to specify number of uses in the coupon creation form, because essentially EVERY print credit coupon is one use of x dollars.

Is it possible for clients to share this code with others? Yes, but all this will do is use up the initial $25. If the client places an order worth $10, then passes on their coupon code, the recipient would then have the remaining $15 of the client's money to spend. Regardless of who uses the code, when that money is gone, it's gone, and the code is expired.

I hope this helps! Give us a shout with more questions.

    Coupons: am I correct?
i posted on page 38 (slight exaggeration... slight) of an old coupon thread, and didn't get a response. I usually get responses very quickly here.

I want to offer my client a $30 print credit for buying a photo session with me. I do this by creating a print credit coupon for $30 (restricted to her proofing gallery), and give her the code, right? It can only be used once, correct?

Also, If I want to offer this to all of my future clients, does this mean I must create a coupon for each client I create a proof gallery for, or can I set up an easier solution?
    Thanks

OK, I actually found the answer to the first question, re: just be used once.

I still would like to know however, is it possible to streamline the coupon code process so I dont need to re-create the $30 coupon over and over again, every time i Create a new client proof gallery?

Thanks for posting such a great, detailed feature request. If you don't mind, we'd love it if you would put your feature requests here: http://feedback.smugmug.com

Sorry we missed your other post, it was in the 'coupons business discussion thread' not this 'help thread' :)

    Please no one kill me....
I'm sure that this has probably been asked and answered - and I swear that I'm usually smart enough to figure stuff out...

We want to offer packages AND discounts. If a client orders a package (which is discounted) will a "percent off" coupon ALSO be applied to cost of the package?

Sorry if I'm wasting good forum space by asking a previously answered question - but I'm kinda special and would appreciate any grace you folks could extend to me and my stupped... stoopit... stewpeed... dumb questions.

    Coupon screen capture
If you have Windows 7, I just discovered an easy way to cut out (screen capture) a coupon.

There is a built in program called Snipping Tool which you can find by typing in "snipping" in the Search bar.

You can create a shortcut to it and put it on your taskbar for quick access. It has several capture options including using your mouse to draw a rectangular box around the item you want to capture. You can then save it as a png, gif, jpg or html file and copy/paste/insert where needed.

    Multiple coupons
Hi, This is my 1st time posting so hopefully I am doing it right....

    My question concerns multiple discounts/coupons

Currently I charge a "sitting fee", but then issue a coupon in that amount to be used toward print purchases.

I also want to offer coupons for:

    -% off for returning customers
    -% off for a referral
    etc.

How would a client use the sitting fee coupon AND a % off coupon on one order?

Thanks ever so much for any help.

    Adam,

I could not find "Streamline the Coupon code process" in the suggestions so I added one myself:

apologize if it has been answered before...how do i keep my prices where they are supposed to be in a gallery but allow a client to get prints at my cost? in other words lets say my 4x6 prints are .79 cents. lets say my client gets 100 4x6 prints. i would imagine i could issue a print credit for 100x.79 or 79.00 but then wouldnt i be charged 79.00 from smugmug?

Actually, there is a coupon code just for that. It's the "At Cost" Coupon that will allow you to set print pricing, then allow for some customers to order at the default price.

"At Cost - This allows the lucky person who wields the code to order the images on your site at cost. You can optionally set a maximum number of uses, and a start and end date."

Amount off - This simply discounts your customer's order a certain dollar amount off the pre-shipping total. You can optionally set a maximum number of uses, a start and end date, and a minimum purchase.

If you given them this and set it for an amount higher than they want to order, that should take care of it.

    Oiy..................lots of info here......made my head spin....lol!
Here's my situation....I did photo's for Christmas cards for a customer, minimum time involved. Charged $100 and gave a$50 print credit This was done as a favor so super cheap price. Now I plan to give her a $50.00 coupon towards ordering photos.....is there anyway that I can end up losing $$ on this....it will exclude S&H and my prices are all minimum of several $$ over the SM default price.
I feel silly asking, but after reading all the prior posts I was totally confused...lol!
And is there a real difference between $50 print credit and $50 off an order, as far as what SM's % is......?

    Hi!

If something like this were to come up, you would be billed $58.10. That would cover the default cost of the photos ($38.00) as well as the 15% SmugMug retains ($20.10).

    Coupon Functionality Requests
    A couple coupon functionality requests:

-Have an "All Galleries except"-I have some coupons I want to apply to 99% of my galleries. Instead of going through and adding all the galleries from a large list of categories, if I could just select the ones that I don't want the coupon to apply to, it would save a significant amount of hassle.

-Be able to choose what product(s) and packages the coupon could be used for. We sell packages at events, and being able to make sure that a customer uses the coupon for the product and margins it has been calculated for is a big help. I understand the that letting the customer change their mind can have value, but why not make it similar to the "Restrict to Galleries" box, but for products.

-It would also be nice to be able to generate lots of codes at once. If I want to hand out free 4x6s(including shipping) at an event, right now I would have to do a print credit for the value of the print and shipping, but I only want each participant to get one free print, so I would have to go make up hundreds of individual coupon codes and put them in one by one. If there was a code generator associated with the coupon parameters, it would allow me to generate all the codes I need, print them out on stickers or whatever, and distribute to the participants. Another way to use this may be to be able to track coupon usage by e-mail address. That way once an e-mail address used the code, it was locked to them. We know some people have multiple e-mail addresses, but if the rejection after the first usage wasn't obvious like " This e-mail address has already used this coupon code" it would work.

I don't know how many smugmug users are event photographers, but these additions would help me a lot.

    Thanks

Just so you know, the coupon help page link that says "We are ready and willing to improve this feature, so please let us know what is important to you." points to this thread, not the feature request, maybe that should be updated so people's suggestions go to the right place.

Okay forgive me if this is a repeat question, but I have taken the time to read through this thread and I am still somewhat confused.

#1: (To check if my train-of-thought is correct)
My plan is to charge a certain amount to shoot an event, for example a wedding. I want to charge $XXX.XX amount of dollars for the entire wedding, but to alleviate my time for picking out prints that they wish to print from their wedding package, I'd like to give them a chance to order from my site using my prices (and not at cost from SM). Let's say I want to give them $100.00 in print credits. And my prices for an 8x10, is $10 when SM's cost is $1.99, they order 10 so that's $100.00 total from me, but cost from SM is ~$20. They pay for the shipping (~$5) total is out to $105. From what I read, I will not be charged for the shipping, but I will get charged $15 from the credit + $20 for the prints = $35. Am I calculating this correctly? I'd like to make sure I'm calculating this right before I start handing out credit like candy :)

    #2: (May be a suggestion)
If instead, I give them an 'at-cost' coupon, and they buy (10) 8x10's @ $1.99 each, that would be ~$20 + $5 shipping = ~$25 for them total, no charge from SM's 15%. My question is, is there a way that I can limit the amount they can spend using this coupon? This would be a great feature if it is not already on there. This way, I can control the amount they spend.

#3: (Same reason as #1, diff coupon)
This concerns if and when I disperse an 'Amount Off' coupon. Let's say I still want to give a $100 'credit' through one specific wedding gallery, and instead I do this by giving a "$100 Amount Off"-coupon. My prices are the same, $10/8x10 print, they order 10, total is $100. They pay the $5 shipping. $105 total for them. They get $100 off. Do I get charged $20 for the prints sold plus $15 for the 15% SM cut? Is my math correct?

    #4: (Billing)
Let's say on #3, they spent $150 in prints instead, then they utilized the $100-Amount-Off coupon. I get charged $22.50 for the 15% SM cut (for the entire order), leaving $50 I made in sales. Let's say within this $50, the cost for prints were just $10 (at-cost), yielding me $40 in profit. So, $40 - $22.50 = $17.50. So, will instance yield me $17.50 in profit and not be charged on my credit-card for the $22.50 from SM's 15% from a $150 order?

    #5:
Can customers use more than one coupon? For example, a $100-Off-Coupon + 10% off coupon. OR.. can they mix a current "pre-made package" + any coupon; for ex, a package they pay for, $65 + a $50 off coupon, so they only pay $15. How much would I be charged for this instance from SM's fees?

This is a very confusing process for me, but if I can get it down, I think it would save me a lot of time. Also, on #2, if there is a way to limit the amount for 'at-cost coupons', that would make a lot of sense+cents. Thanks, I know this is a lot to ask, but it's still fuzzy for me.

Anyway, please get back to me as soon as you can...but take your time, I sure did. :)

Hey Andy. Has this functionality changed? I dropped by your booth at WPPI this week where one of your employees demonstrated coupon stacking right before my very eyes. Now I'm super confused because I get home to put coupon-stacking in to practice, and the site refuses to take more than one at a time. ne_nau.gif

    Digital Downloads At Cost
    Hi there,

You can't exactly have a coupon for free digital downloads, but you can use the At Cost coupon for that:

At Cost - This allows the lucky person who wields the code to order the images on your site at cost. You can optionally set a maximum number of uses, and a start and end date.

I want to sell a first image (any) at cost to Friends and Family. If I use the At Cost coupon, the logic appears to set my At Cost to $0 (free) for Personal and Commerical downloads. I really don't want to give away Commercial licenses for free! How do I fix this part of the Coupon pricing. I cannot set the default pricing for Digital Downloads to non-zero. Thanks.
