To add my comments to what looks like a very old thread (and why not?), it would be hard to justify anything other than a 1D series camera as being a "pro" camera. I mean, if one had to make that distinction. There is the weather sealing and build quality and all that.
I think it would be easy to justify other models as being a "pro" camera. I've even heard of some pros using a 5DmkII
While it's true that, at least for Canon USA's version of CPS, a single non-1D/1Ds camera body will not gain you membership into CPS, a single 7D plus as little as an older Canon 20D "will" qualify.

Two (2) EOS 20D class digital SLR cameras and above, and three (3) eligible lenses OR
One (1) EOS-1D Mark IV or EOS-1Ds Mark III digital SLR camera, and three (3) eligible lenses OR
One (1) XL2, XH A1, XH A1S, XH G1, XH G1S, XL H1, XL H1A, XL H1S, XF300 or XF305, no additional lenses required.
Awais, i luv the the 7d, it all comes down to the comfortable factor of what you choose, and how you use it, i have a 1DS MKIII somedays i wish had something easy to carry, which i have, in my M 8.2, having said that, any camera could take a good shot, "with the person behind it" I tend to go with the ppl that have the less expensive camera's due to the fact they put more emphasis creating something out of nothing, as the options will dictate,
enjoy it.

Define "pro camera." Then it's easy to tell if the 7D is one. But that definition is subjective.
If you say "a camera that a pro uses" then Rebels are pro cameras, and so are point and shoots.
If you say "a camera targeted at the pro market," then I think the 7D is. The 5DII definitely is, and the 7D is the 5D's sports-shooting brother. Sure, the 1-Series has the highest-end features, but a pro doesn't always need them.

I'm afraid that this thread is not to be taken too seriously.
Obviously the terms "professional", "pro" and even "prosumer" are relative, subjective and contextual. Canon even has different requirements for their Canon Professional Services (CPS) by service region. That makes one wonder ...?
Adding to what Ziggy said, I have heard CPS doesn't even enforce the "professional" requirement. I think you just have to meet the gear requirements. Oh well... I'll be finding out once I get enuf gear, which hopefully shouldn't be too far off
I'm going to reply to this just because the 7D Mk I is reaching the end of its production cycle. I mean does this count as professional enough for you?
Kai did this two years ago but I mean it really speaks for itself

The venues around here define it as a camera with interchangeable lenses.
Leave it at home if you're going to a concert.

yes, it's the gear that makes the "pro"
