Thanks, Natalie. Those are the Black Mountains. You can see the Colorado River if you look carefully in the upper right-hand corner. In fact, I eventually worked my way over there.

The yellow jeep has a solid axle setup? How is the highway behavior. Is it comfortable at around 70-80mph or do you see issues with handling and control at freeway speeds?
do share more on the technical front. Does your jeep have lockers. Manual or Autolocker(lock right kinda lockers).
Your front hubs seem to be auto locking. I guess either they are hydraulic, or you need to reverse after reengating 2WD

All wranglers have solid axles. The jeep drives fine at 75, which is as fast as I'll go, and yes it's very comfortable. Mine (the yellow one) is a Rubicon model, so it comes stock with selectable lockers, front and rear, which are air actuated. You can lock the rear, or the front and rear, but only while in 4lo. The hubs are always "locked", there is no need to back up once you switch from 4wd to 2wd. The Rubicon's also come with 4.10 gearing and a 4:1 transfer case.

Thanks!. WE don't get many nice jeeps here.
Base starts with Solid axle open diff 50BHP diesel powered jeeps.
The most powerful jeep in the market is the Thar with 100BHP Common Rail Turbo diesel, and open front and rear diffs.
Independent front suspension means can't do too much hanky panky.
Hubs are auto locking. you reverse to unlock once you switch back to 2WD.
What I drive is actually a SUV. Independent Front syspension, LSD at the rear, and Electronic shift on the fly T-case with Low ratio available.
Thankfully power is a decent 140BHP (By India) standards, and I am yet to come across an obstacle where I had to stop due to lack of power.
Of course, damage worry, open front DIFF and LSD at rear limitations, articulation limitations etc., mean its more of a soft roader.
Its heavy though, and eats up bushes every 40-50000 kms
In the US the only jeep I ever drove was the liberty. It gave me 16mpg on the highway, thats the only bad part. Other than that I actually found it quite nice.
Hopefully, as more manufacturers come into India, we will start seeing some proper jeeps!

I get between 13 and 15 mpg on the hwy, doing 70-75. :cry
Guys over here would kill for a diesel engine in a Wrangler.
Good for you, thanks for stopping by with that helpful contribution.
Hey what can I say...the tow hooks on the front were rusty within a week as were the bolts on the windshield frame. The black paint on the mirrors chipped off in 6 months. The roof leaked from day one. It was replaced by the dealer as was the rubber seal two times and it still leaked. Gas mileage was unbelievable for a V-6 low horsepower motor. All that and the sticker price was still over 25K.
Had this Jeep been an old junk, then I would have expected the rust and leaky roof but this was a brand new Jeep. Sorry my opinion stands...POS!
I didn't really ask about your opinion on jeeps, this is photo thread, coming in here just to be negative is called trolling...do it somewhere else please.

I am not just being negative. Everything I said is true. I'm sorry if you don't like it or don't agree with what I stated. Please don't make this out to be my fault when Jeep is putting out an expensive vehicle that is inferior. If Nikon or Cannon made a camera that leaked light or the screws rusted within a week of purchase, you'd have something to say. With that, I'm done with this thread. Sorry to have ruffled your jeep feathers.
From this past weekend, a trail called Highway to Hell. I have decided we will no longer be wheeling on trails that have the word "hell" in them. Some really bad spotting caused our rig to flip on it's side and took a fair amount of damage and the driveshaft took some big hits so the drive home at 45 mph was NOT fun.

Hehe, i guess Europe has it better as far as diesel is concerned.
The mileage of diesel rocks.
I drive a vehicle that tips the scales at 2450KGs with two people and some luggage.
thats 5400 lbs
On highways if I drive around 60mph, I get a mileage of 12 KMPL
thats 28mpg.
City driving also gives similar, maybe around 10.5 which is 26mph
I guess a lighter jeep with better aerodynamics would give you 30/28 easily if running on diesel.
When I went high altitude touring, involving lot of low ratio driving, and climbing mountains in 4L at over 16000 feet above sea level(no air, unburnt fuel, yada yada), I got 8.5kmpl, which comes to 20mpg!!
That said, diesel does cost 40 INR/liter over here, which comes to 3.3 USD/Gallon.
However Gasoline costs 5.14 USD/Gallon!
Now diesel may seem cheap to you, but if you bring PPP into equation, even the subsized diesel is "expensive"
But enough of the tech and mpg talk.
I loved the snow drive pic. After a typical 2-3 foot water fording extended drive, do you normally need to service the diffs, like oil change etc.,
I just get the breather cleaned.
But I do miss the Troopy... I think it would've rotted away on these U.P. winter roads though.
So you have gone the toyota way....
I noticed BF Goodrich All Terrain TA/KO is really popular, even among big vehicles. The Michgan UPoverland thingy seems fun. I think we need to rent a Liberty or something, and then do some easier trail

Damage
Thats surely ouch ouch!
Rolling over is definitely not fun. A friend rolled a gypsy(Samurai to you) recently, luckily no damage. Its only 1000kgs, and area had shrubs.
But I agree on one thing. Stay away from trails saying Hell.
That said, I have heard of a legendary trail called the Rubicon trail which is supposedly hell in the later stages, but does not have hell in its name!

After moving back to the land of salted roads I decided it was time to move away from my Land Cruiser addiction.
I really do enjoy the Tundra:
We had quite the collection of rigs on this years U.P. Overland Trip
But I do miss the Troopy... I think it would've rotted away on these U.P. winter roads though.
