I have a goofy question about LR that I am hoping someone can answer for me - I have not used it much and am still learning, but I love the smart galleries feature for uploading to Smugmug.
Question is: If I open a file in Photoshop to make some edits, it is saved as a new .psd file in LR beside the original file. Will this be uploaded as a duplicate in Smugmug or is LR smart enough to overwrite the original upload w/the edited version?
It's essentially a different image, so by default it would be uploaded again.
If you initiate the edit-in-PS in the published collection you'll find that the edited image is automatically added to the collection and becomes a "new photo to publish". However, if you edit it in the original library folder (or another collection), you will have to add it to the publish collection/gallery manually.
I believe there is a way to break the association of the uploaded copy to the original image and then re-sync to manually associate with the edit, but I haven't found out how that works yet. Depending on your usage, it's possibly easier to just delete the original and republish to upload the edit.
This is strange... ever since installing Lightroom 4 and upgrading my catalog, I get this message when trying to edit galleries via right-click for the Smugmug publish service. Uploading images still works however, but this is weird.
@4Virtues - I am getting the exact same error, it seems to stick on a movie file, I now have 8 copies of the one movie uploaded - each time I publish it does an other copy, then gives me that error....

Once, it's done refreshing you can close that dialog.
Which version of the plugin are you using? I don't see any choice of PUT or POST...
I'm using 1.0.2.25
It is there, if you go to File > Plug-in Manager.
I've heard that some ISPs block PUT, so you have to change it to POST and it will be okay. Although it has been working for me in the past but now it doesn't, no matter which one I choose.

Problem is, if I am using Proof Delay and want to replace an image with something I have edited, it can't be a new image, and I can't delete the old one...
Plus I am using Smart Galleries/Collections so it automatically places the new file in there... this adds to the complication I think.

That was the "depending on your usage" caveat
I'm told it's possible to break the association of the original upload and then re-sync with LR which will give you the the option to select the new edit as the master. I just don't know how to do that yet.

Ah, I knew I saw the PUT/POST somewhere.
Have you tried refreshing your authentication?
What about other functionality? Does it sync your galleries?
David please excuse me if this has been answered, but I have been pouring over 24 pages or so and haven't seen the answer yet.
Your latest release of the plugin (Mar 06, 2012) - does it support synching of existing galleries back to LR yet?
If not, any idea when it might?
Yes, it does.
I think if I was to do it again I would consider running it on a gallery by gallery basis (rather than the whole site). It took a long time to plough through my site/catalog and I wasn't sure about interrupting the process.
Cannot publish RAW after update
Lightroom 3.6 64-bit
Windows 7 Professional
SmugMug plugin 1.0.2.25
After having recently updated LR to 3.6 and the Smugmug plugin to 1.02.25, I discovered that publishing RAW photos is not working -- the Lightroom dialog in the upper left-hand corner continually says "Updating Published Collections" and although the progress bar makes slow, incremental progress over the course of an hour, no photos are uploaded, all remain in "New Photos to Be Published." New galleries can be created, though.
I can still successfully publish .jpg and .mp4 video files to my galleries, but publishing is getting stuck on uploading my RAW files. I cannot confirm if this is a problem with Lightroom or with the Smugmug plugin -- I updated both a couple weeks ago at the same time and discovered the problem with the RAW publishing only recently when first attempting to publish since the updates. Before the updates, I could publish a RAW photo from LR to Smugmug without any problems.
RAW photo files are from a Lumix DMC-L1.
I have tried restarting LR, the computer, my network, de-authorizing and re-authoring the plugin, but the problem remains.
One more question... I inadvertently accepted a link to an incorrect file when synching. Can I change the link to the correct file?
LR doesn't make this easy for us..there is a manual workaround for this...
1. Delete the gallery from LR and select 'Leave on SmugMug'
2. Resync the hierarchy to get the gallery back again.
3. Resync the images for that gallery
I've implemented this process as a single checkbox option, which i'm hoping will make a future release.
I've heard that some ISPs block PUT, so you have to change it to POST and it will be okay. Although it has been working for me in the past but now it doesn't, no matter which one I choose.
Mohamed,
Did you get this working ? Our reocrds show that you uploaded/replaced about 45 images on the 24th March with the latest version of our plugin.
Heya Devbobo, some feedback for you - Better documentation (or any at all) for this plugin would be very helpful to help us understand it's configuration options and usage scenarios. I just cannot intuit what each item means accurately. For example, after reading another post about whether setting the "File Settings" to JPEG would cause unnecessary re-compression of images already in JPEG, I decided to change that setting to "Original". Without any documentation on what that setting meant, I assumed it would upload the photo to SM and let SM handle image transcoding. I've since come to realize that Original means it gets uploaded as the file originally is on disk, without any LR processing applied such as cropping, etc.

Most of the export or publish services configuration is actually core Lightroom functionality and is common to all plugins.
I think this is about the best reference I could find describing the settings:
