They are thousands of shags that have taken over disused (and closed to the public) wharves in the town of Oamaru in the South Island of New Zealand. Google 'shags' and 'Oamaru' and you'll find more details. I found the scene 'by accident' when I was attending the Photographic Society of New Zealand's annual convention in a nearby city, Timaru, last year.
I thought I might have previously posted the image below, so I looked for a different one this time which also had a better association with the image I was following in this thread.
This year's convention was held in the North Island, at Wanganui, just this past weekend, where I also captured water fowl, fewer in number though in an equally unusual setting as follows!
simply amazing Ross. My hubby saw the pic and didn't think it could be real. (I have thouroughly convinced him that not all images are what they seem...I can put anyone anywhere and make it look convincingly real ).

The near ones are on what is called the Sumpter wharf (built in 1884), the far ones on a coastal outcrop and wall as I recall. I don't know if they are still there, but as the wharf was closed, I don't imagine there is anything to disturb them!

mmmm....could be....but its actually a macro of hore frost on a dead leaf. I was going for the texture cause I couldn't tell exactly what your pic was but did see texture in it...but now that I looked at it again...I see a footprint?

Image seems to be turned on its side, otherwise seems to be a modern version of previous.
My only excuse is I saw Kinkajou's images and seeing the texture on the walls imediately my image came to mind. No other excuse!
I actually had an immediate association, for some reason.
