Hi you'll,

I have always loved reflection shots and I would love to see what reflections you all can capture. I'll throw a few in the hopper

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

No doubt. That last one...is thanks to "red tide". That crap is killing off the wild life over here. Lost at least a dozen dolphins and as many sea turtles on our beaches. :cry Damn yard care products and pest control chemicals. Grrrrrrr. **calling kettle black...damn fire ants too** I'm not sure if this problem will ever vanish. ne_nau.gifheadscratch.gif Too many nutrients/chemicals in our waters. Grrrrrr

    Guys,

Can you give us any tips on how to 'bring to life' the reflections in post?

    Great reflections, Birdman and Harry!

You all know I am mostly shooting in green water, algae. And not many birds at the ocean, plus I need to find me a phone to shoot, and I have posted most reflection shots with birds. Oh, me, oh my!

    You two done good!

    ginger

Nir, my reflections just show up.....................
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

    Hey Nir,

For the color shots I did minimal post work, the IR shot of course needed significant post work.

The key for me in a reflection shot is just to nail the exposure to within a third of a stop. If there is a significant exposure difference between the subject
and the reflection I might convert two versions of the shot from RAW, one for the highlights and one for the shadows and then copy one to use as a layer mask on the other.

Thank you! I never tried 2 exposures of the raw, one for the reflection headscratch.gif such a simple but brilliant idea...

Thanks Ginger. I'm going to have to learn a heck of a lot more about PP/PS. I'm familiar with the technique you describe, Harry. I"ve never used it yet. I'm still using the wonderful "dodge" and "burn" tool. eek7.gif:D Sometimes I'll "tweak" the reflection...if need be. The real key is to find a nice clean mirror that will fit the format of your shot. :uhoh rolleyes1.gif

I suppose "reflect/reflection" is an interpretation of sorts (the word). This bird is reflecting about it's next meal.....I believe. ne_nau.gif

Excellent pic with marvelous composition. After a shot like that you are officially an "honorary bird man". The badge and decoder ring will follow. icon10.gif

I'd think at the very least for all the egret shots I've posted...you'd BBQ up some of them on the grill for me. Don't over cook 'em.
