The next iteration of the Share Panel (hopefully next week) will add:
    - Using arrow keys (left/right) to navigate photos and update the Share Panel, similar to the Image Info, with less dimmed out photo.
    - Add Gallery link
    - Add Lightbox link
    - Add BB Code

There's some other things I'd like to add but we'll keep the list to the big items for now.

Thanks Aaron - it still doesn't work - tried all the above, followed the quick video guide - doesn't work. Only way seems to be to write the BB Code myself and it's a real pain in the proverbial.
Hmm... strange. Can you expand on "doesn't work" for me. Perhaps there's something wrong with dgrin? When you click the "Insert Image" button, do you get a pop-up asking for the URL? If not, perhaps there's a pop-up blocker interfering?
    PlumbLoco wrote: »
Whether "most" forums are going away from BB Code or not, if the ones that you post to use BB Code that's what counts...
Sorry, my intention was not to say that BB Code is going away, but rather, the need to write your own, or even paste your own, is and will continue to diminish. A lot of the software will automatically generate the BBCode based on the URL to the image (or lightbox, or video). All you'll need is the one image (lightbox) link and poof, they'll do the embedding code for you. But until they actually get around to making this functionality more widespread, I do agree that the BBCode option is still useful. Perhaps one day I can finally get rid of the option, but for now, we'll be bringing it back (mostly since pegelli mentioned, the HTML button is already there).

WHICH IS WHY WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO LINK DIRECTLY TO LIGHTBOX!
My personal preference is to get the Lightbox link directly by clicking on the photo and just grabbing it from the address bar. In Collage and Thumbnail Style's the "Share" button is only displayed when in Lightbox, so I find it to be extra work to go into the Share to get it, when it's already in the address bar. For SmugMug/Journal style the "Share" button is below the photo so it would be a bit easier to get to it from "Share" but also just as easy from clicking on the photo to go to Lightbox, then grabbing that URL.

I'd love to train SmugMuggers to use the tools built into web-browsers (on Mobile the "Share" button, on Web, the address bar + copy) but we'll also add them to the Share Panel as well.

Hi Aaron, thanks for getting back so quickly.

The first part works fine, i.e. copy the link in the share panel photo tab at the appropriate size. Go to the forum and insert the link and I get this:

[ img]https://plumbloco.smugmug.com/Trains/October-2015/i-H62MzSt/0/M/IGMP11225_47773_WantageRoad_1Z95_031015-M.jpg[ /img] Extra spaces as outlined above.

Go back to the photo on my site and copy the url for the lightbox image and then attempt to insert that after highlighting the above text and this is what I get:

    [ url]https://plumbloco.smugmug.com/Trains/October-2015/i-H62MzSt/A[ /url][ img]https://plumbloco.smugmug.com/Trains/October-2015/i-H62MzSt/0/M/IGMP11225_47773_WantageRoad_1Z95_031015-M.jpg[ /img] Again with extra spaces. What I don't get is the [ url= etc. bit...

So the image appears and the link to the lightbox image appears but separately - not as a "clickable" image.

Certainly, if I want to post just the link to the lightbox image in the forum there is no need to go via the share panel, but the whole point is to be able to see the image in the forum and click on it to take the viewer to the image in lightbox at a much bigger size with caption etc. Just posting a link is not going to entice people to follow it!

I'm very pleased to see however that you are flagging up that the BB Code button will re-appear before long - thanks for listening to voices of reason!

    Cheers, Geoff

It looks like somehow the [ IMG] link [/ IMG] text got unhighlighted before clicking on the "Insert Link" button. The dGrin software (vBulletin) detects if something is highlighted and then changes the way the URL code is generated. Try highlighting some text (doesn't have to be an IMG, just any text in a post) and then clicking the "Insert Link" button and typing in "http://www.google.com". Does it display it as [ URL=http://www.google.com]whatever text [ /URL]?

If not, can you provide me with some information on what browser / OS you're using and I'll see if we can re-create the issue?

It forced me to upload to Flickr and to link from there. Already had a thousand hits to the posts since I started. There is no way I will do each picture individually in the advanced settings. It will cause me to drop my SM membership if you do not get it fixed.

It's coming! Just be patient for a few more days and we'll be adding it in, similar to the "Image Info" overlay, where you can use the arrow keys (left and right) to move between photos.

Whew... I found this thread about removing the BB code, read all the replies from LeftQuark, and immediately thought: How am I going to move all my images over to Zenfolio?

Thank god you finally saw the light and are bringing it back... because without that share feature, you'd lose a LOT of customers. You should know better, the customer is always right. ;)

    Probably wrong nomenclature.

When i click on the share button a new (to me) share dialog box appears.

This provides an options for "photo" "social" "slideshow"

Under Share....photo I can choose size and have an option to check the HTML box.

I chose an image size, did not check the HTML box, copied the image link and pasted it into a forum post.

A link address (I think that's what it is) appears but no image.

Why can't I simply copy the link and have an image appear in a post?

Here is an image link copy and paste: No pretty picture. :cry:cry:cry

I have exactly the same pb , how do i use a link to post a image on another forum ? ( i don want a clickable link , i want to see the photo)

Before you paste the link to the image, click on the "Insert Image" button on the dGrin editor (it's a square with a mountain on it, next to the globe with a paperclip on it). Paste your link to the image in there, and the code is automatically generated.insert_image.png

That works for dggrin but what about other forum ? what your telling us to do simply doesnot work.....we are Smugmug customer not beta testor ...so this problem needs to be resolved ASAP !!!

Hi Aaron, your new "system" works for me on some forums (like dGrin and GetDPI) however not on some others (Dyxum and Luminous Landscape for instance) where the URL= string doesn't get wrapped around the highlighted IMG string. Probably has to do with the actual forum software in use, So for me it's still a crutch and not a sensible workaround I have to get used to.

When you say above that BBcode is coming back I assume this is including the complex BBcode where the image is nested in the URL which takes you back to the SmugMug page? I really hope so, because simple BBcodes with a single URL= or IMG tag is not the problem.

There's a few items that are much more pressing like being able to navigate to the next/previous photo and surfacing the Gallery/Lightbox links that we'll work on first, with the BBcode after that.

Yup! Similar to the "HTML" option which wraps the link around the image.

Indeed, but I found a way with one extra ctrl X followed by a crtl V after scripting both links automatically still works to get it done. Not optimal, but OK until you put in the permanent fix.

Here is a more detailed thread about this subject.

    http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62

It looks like, they will be putting the BBCode back. The only concrete info I gleaned was this won't be done next week. Other more important things will be done first then after that, (no statement to how long after that is) the BBCode will be put back.

I think they are going to fix the issue. I believe they are good folks It's just exasperating trying to get a straight answer.

Would have been great if they would have said, "Looks like we made a mistake going in this simplified direction. We hear you and we will fix this in two or three weeks. Thanks for your input."

    Hi Aaron,

I think we were talking at cross purposes - you are assuming I was trying to insert/embed the image on this forum (where under normal circumstances I would not be doing so), and I was assuming that your method would work on any forum - such as the ones I do post images on and where I was trying out the instructions...

It seems others have now flagged up this problem also. Looking forward to getting the BB Code button back!

    Cheers, Geoff

    Where's my photos address?
I am a blogger and formerly would add photos to my blog using code that included my smug mug gallery and my photo's address. I can get the gallery link by opening the gallery and copying the url from the address bar, but please someone explain to me how to get the specific photo link. (and say goodbye to "buy links???"). the url with the photo is missing a few key elements (tell me these do not have to be added to each photo by hand ??/!!!!)
    Thank you.

Click on the photo to open it in lightbox, then click the Share icon at the bottom of the image. This opens the share dialog. Select the size you want. If you want to share the photo in your blog so that clicking on the photo opens it on your site, select HTML.

The code you need to share your photo will be in the box at the bottom of the dialog. Use CTRL-C or CMD-C to copy the code, then paste it into your blog.

See the help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/en/portal/articles/93254-how-do-i-share-my-photos- for an explanation with screen shots.

You might also find the first post in the thread New: Share Panel to be helpful.

Thank you, Denise. Unfortunately, that method comes through with a bunch of extra gobbledygook that I have to delete after I paste it into my code (that I got from you several years ago and has always worked great!), or I will have to revamp my code to accommodate. Or maybe you have a new html conversation you'd be willing to share?
This is what I've been using. <center>

Have to agree that the older version made more sense as when i posted an image it was possible to click on it and be taken to that image in full size.

I now have to insert them with ([]image[/]) which now no longer directs back to my gallery or image!!! Seems all the reason that i chose smugmug for are gradually being removed.

Couldn't you separate the functions of new and old between pro and basic accounts as most pro users i am sure don't need a simplified user interface.

This one issue is going to be a deal breaker for me as i rely on it to encourage people back to view my images.

This is a huge backward step. I emailed SM support and was basically told it's tough. It also creates another problem that when I post in forums, the image is no longer 'clickable' which goes to the smugmug site. It has ruined Smugmug for Forum users. I only joined as ADV?Smugmug were one and the same.
