This is a huge backward step. I emailed SM support and was basically told it's tough. It also creates another problem that when I post in forums, the image is no longer 'clickable' which goes to the smugmug site. It has ruined Smugmug for Forum users. I only joined as ADV?Smugmug were one and the same.
According to this post by leftquark (in the thread New: Share Panel) the BB code is going to be added to the new share panel.

I'm not getting the option to share original sizes.

Is your gallery setting set to show original size? I believe that setting has to be in place first.

nod.gif It only offers up to the maximum size permitted setting in the gallery. I'm pretty sure that's the way it used to work in the old lightbox as well, and it isn't a problem for me. ne_nau.gif

From Aaron's comment above, perhaps that's not the way they intended it to work:

David your answer doesnt solve the problem , so i do not consider this an answer...

It is simple : We want , when we post on a forum , the image to appear not a clickable link .....

Only you logged in can see originals if "Original" is NOT set for max display size. Therefore there would be
    no share to others.

Which forum are you having trouble with? On dGrin, all you have to do is click the "Insert Image" button and paste in the link to the photo and the image will appear.

As David and I have pointed out, we'll be adding in the BBCode to insert the image (with a link) to the Share Panel.

Allen is correct. If "Max Display Size" is set to Original, you, as the owner can see the Original size in the Share Panel. If it's set to something smaller, you'll only see up to that size.

    Here's why:
Max display size is meant to limit your viewers from seeing certain sizes. Specifically, most people use it to limit viewers from being able to view their Original high resolution images. All of the links to the various sizes following a naming convention:
    http://<yournickname>.smugmug.com/<Folders>/<imagekey>/0/<size>/<filename>-<size>.jpg

    For example:
    http://smugmug.com/SomeFolder/a-bCDeFg/0/M/testfile-M.jpg

All one would have to do is replace the <size> with "O" (for Original) and they could get access to your originals. This would be bad as it exposes your files to theft.

Instead, what we do for images larger than the Max Display Size, is add a set of random characters to the path, as a way to hide the photo from visitors figuring out the URL. These characters can also change over time, as way to further prevent theft.

Since you've limited the galleries display size, we don't want you to accidentally give away links to image sizes you don't intend, thus we hide it from you as well.

    Hi MenBrial,
You've commented on all of the Share Panel threads here on dgrin, so hopefully now you've taken the time to read our responses on there. If you haven't, now would be a good time to go through the posts from similar customers who have persuaded me to add the BBCode back in.

We have a few things that are higher priority items (like being able to move to the next/previous image without having to close the Share Panel) that aren't possible to work around right now. On the bright side, you can work around the BBCode issue by typing in your own BBCode: [ URL=link_in_gallery][ IMG] link_to_photo[/ IMG][/ URL] (remove the spaces). Ideally we'd implement this soon.

    That confuses me.

The share photo size dropdown will only ever show the "Max Display Size". Logged in or not.

If "Max Display Size" is NOT set to Original, visitors, or you logged in, will see the "Max Display Size" in
    the share photo size dropdown.

If "Max Display Size" IS set to Original, visitors and you will see the "Max Display Size" of Original in
    the share photo size dropdown.

There was an issue where we were initially showing you sizes you couldn't share. That's been fixed. I went back and updated my previous statement to remove the confusion:

Ahh.... gotcha. I'd love to have the ability to share originals on a per-image basis without having to set that as a gallery-wide setting; many examples of events where I allow right-clicking of size limited watermarked files but would like to send a particular photo within that event to someone as an original.

Smugmug rocks either way though, for me the benefits far outweigh any of my nit-picks :)

You could collect their photos into a gallery just for them, and have download buttons on?

That's an option, for some reason I thought a collected smart gallery would default to the more restrictive allowable file size (so if you had the smart gallery set to show original but collected a photo from a gallery set to max out at 'large' the smart gallery would only show the large). But now that you mention the DL button I'm reckon'ing the DL button would allow a full size original.

    That's cool. thumb.gif

Yep yep! Not that collected photos weren't confusing before :P We'll still honor the original galleries Max Display Size, however the download buttons, as they are now, always return to the Originals. :)

Things might take a bit longer than we'd like ... as you'd imagine, once you start going down the path you often find yourself in the bottom of a rabbits hole. One snag we're working through right now is how easy we should make it for your visitors to have exposure to your embed links; we're making some decisions/changes on what they can do. The security of your photos is paramount so we're making sure we do this right.

Additionally, there's some high pressing items that we'll tackle first (like left/right arrows to go to next/previous photo). The left/right, small design changes, BBCode, gallery, lightbox and fullscreen slideshow links will be added in the next release. Since everything goes through the entire code review/QA process I'm reluctant to break these up. I know you guys want these things quite badly and we're working as fast as we can to get them out.

In the meantime, I figured out how to make their new "improved" share function work in the forum that I use the most, which is Photography On The Net (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php). When replying in a forum thread or creating a new thread, they have a box above which it says Embed Image in which the code [https....] can be inserted. You click "Fetch" and, it works ! Maybe (hopefully) other forums have similar !
