I think Canon and Nikon have both very good camera's, but I think the Nikon brand has one big advantage : the lenzes ... why?

With Canon lenzes you're stuck to Canon Camera's, with Nikon lenzes you can also use the Fuji DSLR's, for me that's one big advantage you can't look over. And don't tell me you Canon users that with a special adapter you can use Nikon lenzes too . . . I know it's possible but come on . . . who uses those adapters ???

So, I don't say that the best camera is from Nikon, Canon or Fuji, it's just a fact that Nikon lenzes can be used on different camera's. Can this be said about Canon lenzes? ( Possible but I don't know it myself )

    1. Have you actually tried one?

I had to wonder the same thing. While I was really not a fan of Nikons at high-ISO for the D100, D70, and D70s I feel that the D200 is greatly improved. I think the 30D still has a slight advantage here, but this is countered by a slight advantage in color response of the D200. The differences really are slight; pretty much you're looking at six of one, half-a-dozen of the other at this point.

In the end my purchase decision for the 30D came down to lenses, namely that I already have a host of Canon lenses and am not really interested in trying to sell them and buy new ones. In the absence of that motivation I would have purchased a D200.

Someone else said that an advantage of Nikon over Canon is compatibility with Fuji. I can't say this ever even made my list of differentiators.

One place where Nikon is obviously superior, and luckily interchangeable with Canon, is lens caps. I run all Nikon lens caps on my Canon lenses.

Go take a look at the FM Alternative Systems forum. There's enough Canon users there that use the various adapters to actually get that new forum started a few months ago. I still think of them as the lunatic fringe, but there are a bunch of them getting great images that way. Anyway, I don't think it's any great liability using Canon bodies. :) Neither is using good Canon lenses--I love the results from the several L lenses I've used.

As to the D200 noise, while I have not personally used one, the guy who got me into the Canon camp sold his 20D for a D200 recently...and the D200 went right back while he's kicking himself for selling the Canon; why? terrible noise at high ISO. AFAIK that got replaced with a 1Ds Mk IIN

That's not the point. It's a funny image, made even funnier by the fact that someone with nothing better to do spent the time creating it (no offense to that person - glad they did). I don't really think it was meant to add substantively to the Canon v. Nikon debate.

Once was OK but twice was :snore.

As for adding any substantive to the "mine is bigger than yours debate" something substantive would be a ground breaking event.

Have you gone to a stare and, held both cameras to see which one felt better in your hands. Also play with the controls to see which works better for you. To me a Nikon feels like a womans breast in my hand, nice and natural. :D

Yup. Both the Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40 and D40X feel small to my big hands. But the ones that feel right cost more... too many jokes to be made from that one mwink.gifrolleyes1.gif

    WT#?

This is not the sort of post that makes me feel confident about Nikon users aesthetic sense. the only reason I want the chicharones to feel like a camera is if my woman has a brand new 5D hidden in her coat. Elsewise, that's just freakish.

Folks, this thread is rapidly digressing from the original, rather silly, comparison of cameras.

Please keep the discussion about cameras or, at least, about photography.

    Back to cameras
So I went and looked at both a D40X and a Rebel XTi. The user interface to me was more intuitive on the Rebel. Seems as good a selection criteria as all the other ones as I am looking at cameras.
