I wouldn't read too much into that award. These are the people that called the D200 the King of high-ISO. Even the most ardent D200 fan would have a laugh at that.

i think articles like that are great. They get some information out to their
reading public. It's up to you and I to read that as well as other stuff and
make our decision.

Is the award relevant? It's a data point.

I don't think you guys got the point of my post. It was just a little trash talk.

It wasn't designed to spark the debate about this never ending competition. I could really care less if you think your camera is better than mine. I'm still gonna shoot Nikon. (that sounds harsh, bit it's not intended that way)

BTW: Which debate came first? THe Mac/PC or the Nikon/Canon?

I have always been a Canon user.. but having read the review of the D300, I would go Nikon if I was starting from scratch now. Even if the reviewers have a huge bias in favour of Nikon, some of the features on that camera sound amazing. 51 point AF, advanced subject tracking, ISO 6400, 12.3MP. bowdown.gif

I would still advise people looking into getting a 1st DSLR to figure out what specific features they want at what price, and try them all out.

Nah, no need to hide. It takes at least 20 Canon shooters to equal one Nikon shooter. So the numbers are more even than you think. mwink.gif

CRACK!

Merry Christmas everyone! How you get whater you wished for. Whether it be Nikon or Canon.

Enough. If you have something positive to add to the thread, please feel

Ian, I understand that you deal w/ allot of fanatical posters in these forums. If you browse though the rest of the forums and threads and see the content I provide. You'll see that while I always reveal my opinion, I still maintain a neutral stance when posting.

You know - for some reason I always watch this thread - I think it is for kicks and giggles.

The real winner is whomever goes out there and buys one of these cameras, Canon or Nikon, and learns how to use it and starts taking pictures. One way or another these are tools and all we can do is learn to use them to make memories, whether for ourselves or others.

Those who sit on the sidelines and suffer paralysis through analysis - well....not sure what to say to you...

So let me get off my :soapbox and allow the debate to continue - I have pictures to take.

Cheers,

Hmm, I think you mean he won last year (2007)
and he switchted this year (2008) to Nikon.

Yep, she won last year and she switched to Nikon last year. Don't know what camera she used for her award winning shot. Doesn't matter really as the photographer wins the award not the camera.

That's my reaction. That's my next major purchase. Once Linda recovers from the cost of the D3 I'll start the 14-24 campaign.

<< good read >>

Yes, it was - thanks :)

Also interesting to have my category confirmed ... 'most skint amateur' ... according to his bottom line ... as I've never bought a new slr body in my life (although I recently weakened with my first new lens) :)

No one would ever dare to speak up against
M. Reichmann ... but he's clearly in lens hype
talking about those lenses. rolleyes1.gif

These Nikon lens reviews helped me (as a
scared Canon owner) to recover from the
initial equipment angst shock thumb.gif

:lol4

I never experienced equipment angst. I just went out took some pictures and if they looked good I was happy. Owning an 85mm 1.4 and seeing the results from it make me think I must have a different lens from the one they reviewed.

Oh well, these are dark days for Cannonites, first the Mark III focus fiasco and then the release of the D3. Now that was equipment angst. rolleyes1.gif
People who had been perfectly happy with their equipment the day before were suddenly demanding that Canon one up the D3. Oh the humanity!!!!!

I have never seen the sense in some folks' need to believe that they have the best whatever. Geez just shot with what you got and don't worry about what the other shooters have.

So there is sth. like sample variation over
at Nikonville? mwink.gif

But seriously, as someone who for the first time
dropped over 1k on a 70-200/2.8 lens and for someone
who is slowly stepping up from the entry level
dslr world - I have had my equipment worries.
Not so much because I was scared I couldn't
take good pictures but because I wasn't sure if
I made the right system choice for the future.
(future means "time to buy big-o-glass")

Camera bodies will continue to see upgrades
as fast as today but lenses will stay for a while.
And thats why I went Canon. Nikon fans seem
to worship every lens as if it was godsend. But
whattaya expect if there isn't too much glass to
choose from in the first place. mwink.gif

...maybe because they glow and you hear angels sing when you open the lens case. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="" >

It might be why Canon paint's theirs white!! <snicker>

..but seriously I agree with Harry.. just shoot what ya have and drool over the next body coming. ..I mean what if they they time the new bodies just to have folks jump back and forth like bunnies?!?

Kinda like cell phones!! It's a plot! I'm sure of it!! <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/rolleyes1.gif" border="0" alt="" >
