But seriously, as someone who for the first time
dropped over 1k on a 70-200/2.8 lens and for someone
who is slowly stepping up from the entry level
dslr world - I have had my equipment worries.
Not so much because I was scared I couldn't
take good pictures but because I wasn't sure if
I made the right system choice for the future.
(future means "time to buy big-o-glass")

Camera bodies will continue to see upgrades
as fast as today but lenses will stay for a while.
And thats why I went Canon. Nikon fans seem
to worship every lens as if it was godsend. But
whattaya expect if there isn't too much glass to
choose from in the first place. mwink.gif

I have shot with quite a few lenses that cost over $1k but I'll never have your expertise on lenses. I just shoot with them and don't measure them with charts, etc. I don't know whose lenses are best and don't really care. My ego is not lens or camera body dependent.

The first picture I sold was taken with the poorly reviewed and universally disdained 24-120 VR lens. The magazine just didn't care what lens took the picture.

And pray tell what opinion was that?

    was it:

I didn't mean to cause affront by disagreeing with your opinion. :help

Wound that mean he was offered a Nikon sponsorship after winning with a photo he took with a Canon?

You seem to be on a spree with this implying I
said brand x is better than brand y idea. I
declare you the new thread leader! thumb.gif

I will reword that post you quoted so you can
understand it better. There is a fine line between
seriousness and fun poking some Nikonians in
my post. I'm not a native speaker of english so
I hope it's not too difficult for you to understand ...
are you ready? Ok here we go:

    >I chose canon because they have some lenses that I need and
    >which Nikon doesn't offer. Lens development is slow (unlike camera
    >development) so it's unlikely that the situation (that Nikon doesn't
    >produce the lenses I want) will change in the near future.
    >This is the reason I chose Canon over any other brand.

Nice thread so far, but not nearly enough gratuitous name calling.

So let me throw it down.

Canon is clearly superior. for the following reasons,

Canon has made Cameras longer than Nikon. Therefore they have more experience. Longer experience makes for better quality. That's why the future of photography lies not with digital, nor film. No my friend, daguerrotypes are the coming thing.

While Canon made cameras for hapy japanese tourists, Nikon made artillary rangefinders to blow up unhappy US marines. Bad Nikon!

Why does Nikon think the same motor that is appropriate for a 24mm lens is appropriate for a 400mm lens- Nikon telephoto is teh sux0rz!

    USM, baby. USM. USM

Canon has sleek, yet discrete, red lines around the end of its expensive lenses, whereas in order to attract attention, Nikon users have to compensate by being more obnoxious. Fortunately, this is not difficult for them.

Canon is far less noisy than Nikon at high ISOs. The same is true of Canon shooters vs. Nikon shooters (see above post). Canon is to Nikon as James Earl Jones is to Eddie Griffin.

Nikon users are really just closeted Leica snobs with less cashmwink.gif.

The vaunted 200D is just the latest example of "catch-up" Two steps behind suckah! Great time to one up the 20D (as if!) when the 5d came out like AGES ago. That's soooo 2005.

Nikon users are well known for zoophilia. I'm just sayin'!

Not according to Ken Rockwell( along with me )!!!! :).
    Awesome article:

P.S.: Lets not even COMPARE nikon lcd's to canon lcd's :).

Not fair! The concept of reading stuff up clearly
violates the idea of a brand vs. brand debate yelrotflmao.gif

    This link is pretty interesting:

    ISO 24,000 ?

I sure could have used this over the weekend. I really hope canon comes up with something competitive. Then again, it will be a while before I have $5,000 handy, so it is all sort of academic for the moment.

How's this for an unqualified answer...
I suggest that most NIKON or CANON DSLR cameras and most lenses from those manufacturers can provide more quality that the average DSLR Photographer can get out of them.

I will guess that some of the major differences between the better DSLR cameras are just a function of bells and whistles.

Just want to share my experience.

I used Nikon film body FM, F4 many years ago. I like its metal body and bullet proof like body. Stopped everything due to family commitment.

Pickup up a plastic Canon film many years later and found it like a toy but it works.

Now, I am a C user as C brand gave me right toys at right price at the right time in 2003. I started it again with 300D kit and the old lens. It was the highest pixal available for me at my price.

Few years later, C brand hit me again with the full frame 12.8 MP 5D at the price just met my pocket.

I have no reget to stay on with C brand as i feel that the company started with right thing, changed the mount in 90's to meet the future challenge, developed their own CMOS sensor from the very beginning, broke the norm to start white lens.

Most important is that the company knows the customer, offer the right toys for the grow up boys at the right time.

Looking at the lates 1Ds MKIII, it is an excellent toys. The just launched 1D MKIII is even a killer (to my pocket). But good to have a dream and working towards a dream is more fun.iloveyou.gif

Yes back in the day I was a Nikon Man F3 and me where always on the go.... Then one day I bought my Friend a rebel.... I watched as the auto focus nailed Photos that I could not get because the F3 took to long manual this and that. So I went looking for the Nikon answer... I was left there High and dry by Nikon... I was beside myself. I use to spit on Canon Users and laugh at them... the curse had come home.. I am waiting to recieve in the mail this very week the Canon 40... It will be my third Canon... My Nikon FG the only one I have left.. Sits alone collecting dust,,,,,,,,,, Sad really........

I have never been let down by a Canon and the 40 shoots a slow 6.5 FPS.... I do not know what I will do.... Laughing.gifwings.gif
