Dgiggle:lol4Oh man, that cracked me up. I guess it's a difference between cultures. So what gas-mileage does the bonneville get? around 20? the smart has a gasmileage around 40...
Edit: 98 bonneville has city/highway/combined 19/28/22

yes, but like you said... it all comes down to culture... and i mean really, how much would i get made fun-of at a high school if i drove that little thing around...
dad had an SSEi...fun car.. the whole thing lights up like a cockpit at night.
crappy stereo though.
at least this one has a CD player....
oh another thing i love about this car is the "heads-up display" where it shows the mph reflected at the bottom of the windsheild so much better than looking down at the gauges...

Personally i think you would be the coolest one around. I usually like different people, and you would be the most environmentally friendly, AND you have the most money left to take your date out to dinner
But seriously, i know a car is kind of required in the US. I tried to find a car with a (relatively) small engine when i was there. (in TX mind you, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack). I ended up with a 6cyl 2.5l. On highway mileage it actually did better than what the book said, in city-traffic it was worse :cry. Was it fun driving a car with so much more Power-avaible than Power-required? sure, was it necessary? heck no. Especially not since my pay was crappy

they can make their own dinner...i'm buying equipment!:D
lol. when i go places with her i have to put how much money i think i might spend in my wallet and hide the rest or else i spend it all.
But, by getting a smart, you save money so you can spend more on her or more on glass, your choice. Or for the same money you can take her someplace further away. AND since the car is smaller, you're alot closer to her, so you can hold hands or something... (2 hands on the wheel at all times of course) But i will let you get whatever car you want, i'll quit my small car benefits messages
You are right, they won't sell them there for a while but they will be sold in Canada. There are a few imported ones though. Oh, and i was wrong, it actually gets 60mpg according to the booklet
17inch rims. I believe that the car would accelerate better with 16 inch rims because of the weight difference but 17's FTW!
In a rather shocking turn of events this weekend, I also bought something with 17" wheels (for the love of god, kid, they're wheels, not rims! what are you, a ghetto child?)

i'll admit though, i dont know erik that well but i cant really see him driving a c70 anyways. especially in new england.
yeah, wrong guess, but you're thinking is right. I guess since this is the first thread we've ever talked cars in, you guys did pretty well. My old buddies from Michigan (Ford/Supplier guys) who know me and my car affliction well got it on the first/second guess.
One more hint, as I'm really dissappointed in one of you in particular
It has a cult following
great autocross car
mkV
if you don't get it now, you'll have to wait for the photos after lunch.
Edit: not quite true. I like industrial design, and I like the design of cars. That's how I recognized the Golf, by the reclined glass. But for my own, I couldn't care less what I drive. I should get me from A to B, and not break on its way. I love passion though, so this thread is a fun read.
You bought the follow up to Herbie! God, you have good taste!
Thank you.
That photo in the link is almost spot on, but I didn't opt for the 18" wheels. I don't really like the design, and the 17's are plenty stiff enough. I'm not a racer kid, this is my daily driver for the next few years.
And, that photo also looks to be a EU spec car, at the appropriate height.
The US cars get a lovely +15mm of ride height to meet our silly SUV crazed safety standard. I know 0.6 inches doesn't seem like a lot, but to a car guy, you can just tell, the gap in the wheel well is juuuust a little too big.
I love it. I drove the A3 months ago, but couldn't afford it. And I'm glad. the GTI is a much better deal and a bit lighter. I really like it.

Good choice! I don't know what it's like in the US, but we've driven both the A3 and a VW at the same time. In the same shop similar parts were at least 30% more expensive for the Audi. Given my previous statement, I probably don't have to explain that the A3 had to go.

the bonneville actually gets pretty good mpg
only thing is i would need to replace the tires... we bought it 2 years ago from a guy down in Florida and the wheels are horrid for winter.
