There's a tiny area above the bonnet that, on my monitor at least, appears to be blown out. :D

Aren't you one of the people who has always said "It's not the camera, but the person using the camera". No excuses.

Stick with me kid - I think we can shame "Momma Duck" into the purchase.

I mean how does it look for the Smugmug House Pro's kid to be hacking around in freeware. You know what they say about nuts not falling far from the tree - you want your nuts producing good work (hmmmm, I'm not sure that came out right) rolleyes1.gif

Maybe next time your home you can get his old dust gathering windows machine - it's probably already loaded.

i'm hearing a lot of blah blah photoshop blah blah again. there will be no turtlenecks in this thread!

So today, I got an email with a special invitation from Mercedes Benz to attend their special AMG driving event, to be held at premier race tracks across the country, and that I should hurry as my special invitation grants me access to this exclusive event.

Oh, and it's only $1200. For one, yes one, day.

    Who's with me? lol3.gif

Oh that? It's not new anymore. It's almost 2w old. First service is scheduled
for 5k miles. I won't have to get out any sort of tools. It's included with the
    car.

personal opinion: save your money on the syn and just use dino. That thing's run for 17 years on dino (or at least the most important years of it's life), you're not going to get any of the wear benefits of syn at this point.

you're changing it too frequently to get any cost benefit and eventually that syn is gonna find some holes and end up on the floor or out the tailpipe. Trust me on this.

and nice job on the interior, but get some new carpets. ugh!

Yup, seriously Zac, you might as well be balling up money and burning it. I don't care how good you are at finding deals on synthetic oil online, you are wasting your money! And if that's not good enough, Lee is also right in that the synthetic may actually do more harm than good for a 17yo engine that wasn't designed for it. Unless you've changed all the seals yourself, they may actually have negative reactions to the additives in syn.

You want some links to go read?

And to answer your question, just like Ian, mine's paid for... every 5k I plan on showing up at the dealership and surfing the web for an hour. Yes, the GTI runs full syn from the factory.

I futz around with the 2-wheeler myself because its a toy and its a good way to blow off some energy on a weekend. The car is a tool, I ain't crawling around busting my knuckles on those anymore. Plus, I think you need a specialized degree to understand most modern german engines, and that's only if you can get to them!

Ditto... I've heard some bad stories about changing from dino to syn in auto's. Had a friend that was headed on a trip and thought he would change to syn for extra protection. Well, during the trip he lost the oil and burned up the engine - the thing leaked like a sieve. He was told it was because he changed to syn.

At least he can kinda steer the car without hitting things for the most part at least. I mean if he had to shift and steer at the same time can imagine how many more cars he would be sending to an early grave. :cry
