If I didn't just drop $1500 on certification classes I'd be in.
I thought you had a new Audi? Don't they recomend like every 15kmi?
I know my friends 2002 BMW e46 is every 15kmi

personal opinion: save your money on the syn and just use dino. That thing's run for 17 years on dino (or at least the most important years of it's life), you're not going to get any of the wear benefits of syn at this point.

Yup, seriously Zac, you might as well be balling up money and burning it. I don't care how good you are at finding deals on synthetic oil online, you are wasting your money! And if that's not good enough, Lee is also right in that the synthetic may actually do more harm than good for a 17yo engine that wasn't designed for it. Unless you've changed all the seals yourself, they may actually have negative reactions to the additives in syn.

And to answer your question, just like Ian, mine's paid for... every 5k I plan on showing up at the dealership and surfing the web for an hour. Yes, the GTI runs full syn from the factory.
I futz around with the 2-wheeler myself because its a toy and its a good way to blow off some energy on a weekend. The car is a tool, I ain't crawling around busting my knuckles on those anymore. Plus, I think you need a specialized degree to understand most modern german engines, and that's only if you can get to them!

Ditto... I've heard some bad stories about changing from dino to syn in auto's. Had a friend that was headed on a trip and thought he would change to syn for extra protection. Well, during the trip he lost the oil and burned up the engine - the thing leaked like a sieve. He was told it was because he changed to syn.

At least he can kinda steer the car without hitting things for the most part at least. I mean if he had to shift and steer at the same time can imagine how many more cars he would be sending to an early grave. :cry

What kind of oil do you guys run in your new cars and how long between changes? Also what viscosity do you use for the spring/summer
I use Castrol Syntec full synthetic 5w 30 every 4kmi

same in the bikes but diff weight.

Bought a BMW lip spoiler and painted it trim flat black

Swapped part of my tan interior to black to give it a nice 2-tone.
Also added an m3 steering wheel.
