New version 1.0.0.224 uploaded
Further improvement on the response parsing process (thanks David!)
If you already have 223 you should be OK for now, but anybody below that should get a new version...
I am using a trial version of SE. Have no probs w/ uploading of photos. I added avi extension to the list of allowable video formats and tried uploading a .avi file.
It look a long time and showed the progress but at the end the video is still shown in the Queue section. I checked the site and video has not been uploaded. Video uploads using the standard uploader are working fine. Below is the log. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry about this... What version of S*E are you currently with?
Hmm, strange... If the item stays in the queue it means a timeout happened or the connection broke... However, if you're saying the same item uploaded fine with standard uploader, and it's also faster... You got me on this...
What's your upload speed according to your ISP? 40 min to a 100Mb seems a bit slow...

I have not yet tried to upload the same video using the standard uploader on the site. I have tried other videos and said that it worked.
I will try uploading this video again through SE and if it fails, from the site.
I am on a slow net connection. Here in India we can't have fast speeds for reasonable charges if we want unlimited (uploads and downloads) type of connections.
I am unable to upload photos from my work place via SE. I have specified the proxy name and port in settings.
Below is the log. Any ideas?
After entering the proxy info in settings, I could see the categories, albums list. Uploads aren't working though.
I see. That may be the case.. Upload using separate part of code comparing to everything else, proxy may not be used there. I'll check it out (hopefully this week)...
In the mean time please try to switch to single-threaded upload and see if it helps.
Help with Star Explorer "Replace Photos"
I was not sure where to post this question, but I really need some help with this. I cannot get the "Replace Photos" feature figured out for anything!!!!!!!!! I really need someone to tell me step by step what to do to make this work. This is the main reason I purchased the software and am now looking at a huge order with lots of photos that needs to be replaced - ugh! It takes forever to do them one by one. Please help?

Valerie, it should be simple
A) If you uploaded original pictures with S*E - skip this step and go to step B. If not - highlight the target albums in S*E and select Download Image Info command from the context menu (right mouse button). Worst case scenario - if you don't see albums. Then you'd need to perfrom Get Albums command firt, and only then Dowload image info.
Make sure your newly processed images are at exactly the same place where the originally uploaded ones are/were (i.e. in the same flder and named identically)
C) on the upload toolbar there is a dropdown button with a green globe and red checkmark. Click on it and select Check and Replace.
D) Now, for every target album drag and drop the updated images. S*E should immediately recognize them and place an asterisk (*) in fron of the file names.
E) Finally, hit the upload button.
That's it.
As always with the new things, try it on one/two small files first.

Yippee - making an whole NEW gallery and doing that worked! I always upload to smugmug from my "upload to smugmug" folder in my picture - so I know that my previous attempts were from the same location. Now my question is how to get it to work with previous galleries - I have an order with about 35 pics needing replaced and the asterisk will not show for them, nor will the "get image info" - it is greyed out.....

Oh, I see, now I know: you have Standard S*E license. This functionality is only available in Power (one album at at time) and Pro (unlimited) edition. You may want to consider an upgrade....
Gotcha! I thought I could replace images with the version I had - that's been the problem all along! Thanks for the quick send for the license - it's working great now!

Nikolai,
I read in these forums a way to upload a smaller Jpeg, and perhaps keep the NEF aside for when a file is purchased. Can you direct me to that thread or PM with directions. My internet connection is VERY, VERY slow, although it is DSL. it is running at .53 mps......It takes FOREVER to get my albums uploaded even with the booster.
Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.
Admin if this is not the proper place I can delete my post.
Thank you,
Sean

Sean,
the way I do recommend to do this (as I described at some point earlier) is:
1) shoot raw + small coarse jpegs
if you can't - run some converter and convert your NEF files to the small (800x600) coarse (60%) jpegs.
2) sort and upload said small jpegs. Even over a slow connection the speed should be adequate. Don't forget to set some print delay (I find 1 day perfectly acceptable, but YMMV)
3) delete small jpegs
4) when an order comes - process pertinent NEF file and replace small jpeg with a processed full res version. S*E can do that on a mass basis.
If it's still not acceptable speed wise - my Mass Upload service is always open:-)

Valerie, there must be some confusion. Let's take a simple test.
Create a test album (make it hidden).
Upload one small image.
Make sure "online dups" check is in "check and replace" state (and nothing else is checked, like "for specific albums only")
Now try to add the same image to the same album.
S*E should detect the duplicate and show an asterisk in front of the file name.
If not - something is majorly screwed up, like the cache is not writable, or something...
Nikolai, thanks for a great tool! I've had S*E Power Ed for some time now and am just now feeling comfortable using it for uploads/downloads. I followed your "replace" instructions and it worked fine for new photos having same filenames, while keeping captions and keywords intact.
Question: Is there a way to replace files with files having different names?

Al,
Thank you for your kind words!
As to your question: while it's possible, it's fairly difficult to create an intuitive user interface for doing it. So I suggest to simply make a copy of a file and name it the way it was when it's been uploaded. After replacing you can delete the copies...
