You guys are SICK! Now you got me and my kids all hooked on OOBing. I have to clean up post processing on two events I just shot before I can get to start trying...cry for me...I have to wait before I can get pulled into the vortex!
Matthew, I love this picture. I live a few blocks from where the photo was taken and I know how hard it is to capture the tortoise and hare. The distractions in the background (trees, buildings, trash can, benches) make composition difficult and the amount of space between the two statues makes it almost impossible to use a shallow depth of field and get both animals in focus. You found a wonderful solution for capturing the light heartedness of the statues (even though the hare, appropriately, didn't quite make it)!! Kudos. clap

Thanks for the comment, I'm so glad you like it. As you said, there are lots of distractions like the trashcan etc and I was a bit disappointed with the image to start with but this technique really seems to work.
Matt...nice water spillout! Love the look of the front left rider as he enters the OOB world!
Splatt...very nice work! The only thing I would suggest is to change the gradient so that the darker portion is in the lower left corner to provide more contrast to the snow spillout. I know you changed it from the first one but I would still go with more contrast to help show the snow better.
Tyler...awesome pic and OOB work. Action shots are some of the best pics to OOBize and this one is no exception! I have a friend who is a big mountain biker that I want to try and get some shots like this for OOBing. Excellent effort.
Boating at Tablerock Lake
Here is my first try at it! This is so addictive.
Some of these are awesome! I am not sure that I am attaching this correctly. This is my first post with an image. Boating Tablerock.jpg
kwcrow...fantastic job! Especially the second OOB, great masking work and perfect subject matter for OOBing!! Remember to eat and sleep some in-between OOB's.
Thanx Serrator,
I owe it all to your great tutorials. They lay everything out as simply as possible. You may have lawsuit issues for beeing such an OOB enabler.
General questions or statements.
1. In your second tutorial you did some great shading on one of the curved frames. Could you explain how you got your results and maybe some tips on how to do it?
2. I figured that I was hooked on this after reading your tut's and put together a PS action to create and name all of the layers and masks in the proper order. This gives me a good starting point and might offer an even simpler tutorial for those that use know how to use actions. I will try to clean it up and post it for others to use if I get a chance.
3. Also, I have seen some neat 3-D type frames on some of these. (Have thickness and texture). If someone could explain or give tips on how to do it, that would be great!

Also you asked about adding thickness to the frame, this is easy...just make a duplicate of your frame layer. Change the color to a gray. Move this new layer below the main image layer and above the gradient layer. Move the new frame layer out as needed to create the illusion of thickness.

Thank you Serrator, your tutorials kicked off quite a bit of excitement as people tried their hand at this amazing Technique.

Until then, here's my next effort. The water isn't great, but it's taken from a scan of an old print. The subject just seemed spot on.
EDIT: Finished this one, went with a different gradient color and added some texture.
The OOBs here look amazing!
Here's my first try.
BTW, my first post here! I just upgraded my membership a few days ago. I love this place.

kwcrow,
You asked about shading...here is a quick mini tut I made that hopefully will help:
