We made some changes so all is well. Watch your tools and let us know if you see any errors. Thanks.
Looks like the images xml is using username.smugmug.com addresses and google doesn't like that. It wants the url for the image to match the custom domain, otherwise it says it is not allowed in the sitemap for your url.
In fact, YES! :smo We just added them, this week. We needed a way to let Google, Bing, and other search engines know what pages to crawl on your sites. So now we build, store, and submit sitemaps for each of you. The 'WorldSearchable' user setting determines whether we make and serve sitemaps at all. And album (Public, Password, WorldSearchable, HideOwner) and Image (Status, Hidden) determine whether certain pages show up in the sitemaps.
Looks like base and galleries work but not images. When I click on the sitemap-images.xml, I get the following errors.
<table class="grid" id="problems"><thead><tr><th class="header">Line</th> <th class="header">Status</th> <th class="header rightmost">Details</th></tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr class="first even"> <td class="leftmost null"></td> <td class=" null">-</td> <td class=" null">Sitemap file size error

</td> </tr> <tr class="odd"> <td class="leftmost null"></td> <td class=" null">2</td> <td class=" null">Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.</td> <td class="rightmost null">Tag: html

</td></tr></tbody></table>
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Affdig and Lou - both of these issues have been fixed. Google will pick them up, or you can manually tell Google to go get the Sitemap index file - your call.
I'm right there with Andrew (Turbo V6 Camaro) ... Google doesn't like the images file because they all point to the rsquared.smugmug.com address instead of rsquaredphotography.com
And it's not that Google hasn't re-indexed, you can go straight to the xml and see for yourself. (I mean that for anyone having the problem... Just go look at yourdomain.com/sitemap-images.xml)

Our team says that Google still has to do their thing with your site - please wait for them it will right itself.

Except that I can (and have) resubmit my site to Google, and it still gets the error. Plus I can go and view the sitemap-images.xml on my own and see that all the image location tags point to my rsquared.smugmug.com domain. All the other sitemaps (-base and -galleries) point to www.rsquaredphotography.com.
I don't understand what you guys thing Google still has to do with my site. The xml you are generating seems to be pointing back to the wrong domain.

I'm getting the same errors on sitemap-images.xml.gz
Everything is pointing to jeanachang.smugmug.com instead of my custom domain. I know you said to others that these things will be corrected, but I just wasn't sure if those of us with the problem had to notify you that we're having the problem in order for you to know about it and fix it.:D

In other words, you need to to nothing to make them work, we just obey your current searchability settings

Need to see a sample of the problem - ok? I already see the 'lasmod' error, do you see others? Thanks!

What happened to ones for the images and the galleries?

Google finds that stuff right away in webmaster tools if you refresh. They don't seem to be in the sitemap itself anymore scratch

OK, but before you had separate xml files for the galleries and images. Are those gone now?

Hi Andy,
I entered http://photos.lifesharephoto.com/sitemap-index.xml into Webmaster Tools. I get a red X. When I click on it I get the following information:

Edit:
If you previously submitted http://www.jasonscottphoto.com/sitemap-images.xml now it is http://www.jasonscottphoto.com/sitemap-images.xml.gz instead.
Same with the others. http://www.jasonscottphoto.com/sitemap-index.xml now points to
http://www.jasonscottphoto.com/sitemap-galleries.xml.gz
and
http://www.jasonscottphoto.com/sitemap-base.xml.gz
Google webmaster tools seems happy with these on my site. And I didn't have to submit anything - it found them itself.

I'm still seeing a problem with http://www.rsquaredphotography.com/sitemap-images.xml
The image:landing_page_loc lines points to http://www.rsquaredphotography.com/ but the loc lines still point to http://rsquared.smugmug.com/
And it's not that Google hasn't re-indexed, you can go straight to the xml and see for yourself. (I mean that for anyone having the problem... Just go look at yourdomain.com/sitemap-images.xml)
I'm still seeing problems with sit<wbr>ema<wbr>p-i<wbr>mag<wbr>es.<wbr>xml
I submitted it on 7/30 and webmaster tools says Google checked it yesterday. So re-indexing didn't work. I'm still getting the following errors.
<table class="grid" id="problems"><tbody><tr class="first even"><td class="leftmost null"></td> <td class=" null">-</td> <td class=" null">Sitemap file size error
Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.</td> <td class="rightmost null">Problem detected on: Aug 3, 2010
</td></tr></tbody></table>
Any other suggestions???<wbr>

Yes, wait for Google.
http://photos.lifesharephoto.com/sitemap-index.xml
clearly points at
http://photos.lifesharephoto.com/sitemap-images.xml.gz
which google will parse.

How often (roughly) does SmugMug update the contents of the sitemap-images.xml and sitemap-galleries.xml files?
Or is it something we can initiate? (mine are out of date)
(sorry if I've missed this info earlier in thread!)
Thanks

The URL is using my old site name (brian-photos), which was updated to "www.dynamicapertures.com" last week. The sitemap entry I used was:
http://www.dynamicapertures.com/sitemap-base.xml
Is there anything I need to do, or is the "brian-photos" something that SmugMug can cleanup on the backend for me?
Thanks!
