Wow, it looks like GPSPhotoLinker supports RAW, now. Nice. I didn't think that'd be possible. Time to go dig out my old eTrex Vista! I'm still wary of modifying RAW files, but if GPSPhotoLinker proves to actually work, I'll find a way to merge it into my automated import workflow.

Now to see if he can implement Automator support...

Love it if you could share the automator action.....

    :-))

It surprised me as well, that very few are natively supported by Mac. Be careful though, sometimes it says that mac is not supported, but it only means that they don't supply software for the mac that can tag the photos. You can still download the logs and tag them using your own/different software.

I took a chance and bought the sony gps-cs1 thingy, which I found on ebay for about 55USD, new. It isn't actually recognized natively by mac osx 10.5 for some reason. There is a trick for this though, if you are willing to do it, and it works fine for me. I use it in combination with houdahgeo software and it works great thumb.gif

Mine mounts as an external drive fine on 10.5.

What does frustrate me is the file format, and having to convert to gpx :-(

Jason, go for it! Sorry the AMOD is so pricey in Switzerland, but I think you will be happy with it. Let us know how it goes.

Woo hoo - it's 24th Dec and I just opened my GPS tagger up - finally :)

I was thinking of this thread the other day. I just bought myself a GPS logger too.

I was torn between that and the igotu. How's it working out for you?

I went out taking some pictures while walking the other day and I'd accidentally turned the unit off putting my keys in my pocket. Lesson learned for me is that I should keep the unit in my bag instead.

hey guys, just to throw my 5 cents in... i used to have a sony gps - device but the battery lasts only very short, i needed approx. 3 batteries for a full day of shooting. instead (even if the battery doesn't last that much longer) i use geologtag on my iphone for these occasions in which i want to geotag. can be exported through wifi and i need one device less in my backpack.

first post on dgrin btw :D

    have a good time

Gentlemen.....the easiest thing to do is simple....sell you low end canon gear and buy nikon and any one of many gps units and Nikon connecting cable and tag every photo the moment the shutter cliks.....or this little unit HERE....

I have used several software for tagging but could never get my camera and gps unit to sync EXACTLY...so sometimes the software tagged the wrong pic..........so going Nikon

I did look at the Nikon with envy with I started thinking about this. However, I didn't just want the unit for photo tagging. I also wanted to track bike rides and car journeys. I can't wait to test it out on a flight!

I wish Canon would get their arse in gear though and release a proper piece of hardware like Nikon has.

So far I've found the tagging software very reliable. I use Lightroom and this plugin.

my current gps is an ETREX by Garmin and it has been very reliable for tracking also......yes if the 5d m2 had the gps capabilities of the nikon d300 I would go canon.....maybe i should try your plug in with my Konica Minolta 7D's before jumping to the Nikon ship.

If you only want photo tagging then you're probably best off with going for Nikon.

Use of the plugin is dependent on giving it the right format. Fortunately http://bt747.free.fr/content/ is a great little tool that will convert to the right format for you. Unless of course your ETREX outputs the correct format already. I've got a feeling it does.

My logger outputs in .csv but using the above tool I quickly convert it to gpx and I'm away.

I'll hopefully upload some properly geotagged photos soon.

Ok slight change of plan.. now getting a Garmin Edge 205 as It will have multiple uses for me(mosty cycling and photography.
It outputs what seems to be a stahdard Garmin file of .GPX which using free software can be converted to anything pretty much, so what will then be the best software available to actually tag the photos with the data? (MAC please)
Trapped in my bedroom taking pictures...did i say bedroom? i meant studio!

Thankyou perfect! my first atttempt worked an viewing it in SMUGMUG worked just as easily.

its all suprisingly simple and not too time consuming which is nice.. be perfect if gps photolinker could also let me edit my other metadata.
