One of the unique features of dgrin is that you can post pictures here to your heart's content. Are you wondering how? Here's a quick "how to."

**MOD EDIT: We've replaced Sid's original tutorial with a link, so that we can stay up-to-date with all the new features.**

By the way, folks, please don't hesitate to ask questions if you don't understand something, or are having difficulty. I'll immediately refer you to a more technically inclined moderator! :D

    Sid:

Try as I might, I am not able to get my images to pst through this method... Of course I am using a Mac G4 with OS 10.2, and so the right click thing does not work for me... But when I do copy my link, it shows with Gallery instead of photo, and doesn't seem to work... It looks like this:

    Ginette,

Here's what the URL should look like for that shot.

    http://throughthelensltd.smugmug.com/photos/3006477-M.jpg

You'll see it has the photo size (M for medium in this case) and also jpg (for jpeg) at the end.

Since you're on a Mac, have you tried to Control-click on the picture, and copied the image location, or the Properties? Then paste that here and see if it works. I think Control-click on a Mac does the same as right clicking in Windows.

Nope Sid... That certainly didn't work... Even tried the Mac key...
    Made my life easier.
Just saved the formula, and will insert the photo number into that as I up-load....

Thanks so much for giving it a try.

If you look at what you pasted between the brackets, you'll see it has URL at the beginning and end. Remove those, and it will work perfectly. This is what you have between the[img]brackets (I've added asterisks so that it shows up:) [*img][/img][*url]http://throughthelensltd.smugmug.com/photos/3006491-L.jpg[*/url][*/img]

And this is what it should look like (again, I've added asterisks:)

I am on Mac OS 10.3.3. What browser are you using?

I use both Safari and Firefox.

Firefox is a little faster to use to copy and paste in a post. If you control-click the menu will give you the option for "copy image location" paste that into the IMG brackets (the little picture of the mountain icon) and it should work well.

Safari is not as easy what I do is "open image in new window" then copy the URL and paste it into the IMG brackets.

    Hope that helps.

    Patch:
Usually I am pretty quick at picking up this stuff... I really am not sure what I am missing.
I've been using Internet Explorer, but I have Safari as well.
When I go to my webpage, I select the gallery and then open up the sub-cat if necessary, then the image.
    This is what comes up...
    http://throughthelensltd.smugmug.com/gallery/91524/1/3698428
When I patch this into the Insert Image bar, of course there is no image.
I am not able to get to the jpg link.
I am able to find the jpg link IF i go to view source and read through all of the HTML tags until I find it... Auuggghhhh
    Thanks,
    ginette

Ginette, you had it on the dog shot.

All you had to do was remove [*url] from the front and also [*/url] from the back and it would have worked perfectly. I removed those and that's how I was able to post the shot of your dog.

OK, so let's just go through this a step at a time.

First, let's do it the Internet Explorer way. You have an image in your gallery. It's the size you like.

Using your Mac and Internet Explorer, Control-Click on the image. A box appears. At the bottom is a line that says "Properties."

    3906374-M.jpg

Click on Properties. Another box appears. Where it says URL, copy that entire line. (It's in blue in the next photo.)

    3906373-M.jpg

You now have all the information you need to link to a photo. Open a new post. Click on the yellow box.

    3906375-M.jpg

Paste your link into that box and clock OK. Hit Submit Reply and the picture will appear in your post.

If you're using a Mozilla browser, it's even easier. Find the picture you want to link to. Control-Click on it. In the box that appears, click on Copy image Location.

    3906376-M.jpg

Then it's the same as before. Go to your new post. Click on the little yellow box and paste your link.

As I go through this, it occurs to me that you're not clicking on the yellow box. You're clicking on the box with the chain, aren't you? Tsk, tsk, tsk. That's for linking web pages, not images.

To link to an image, you have to use the yellow box. This little guy.

IE is different on the Mac. It is still a version 5 browser. Microsoft stopped supporting it a long time ago. When you control click on an image it does not give you properties option. If you are control clicking on your correct size image you want (small, medium or large) pick open image in new window. Then copy that URL and paste as wxwax stated. The URL should look something like this at the end with a S, M or L representing your image size.

nod.gif As long as it has "jpg" at the end of the URL, you're good to go.

This is what I see when I work in Safari on the mac (as I stated earlier Firefox is easier to use, only one step involved-copy image location) when I ctrl-click (or right click with a two button mouse) I select open image in new window.

    3919343-L.jpg

Then copy the URL from the new window which should only show the image in the size you choose s, M, or L. Then paste in the IMG link on your new post and that should be it.

    3919342-L.jpg

I do not know why in my screenshot it shows M-1.jpg at the end, but it works. Normally it would be -M.jpg.

    Baldy can you answer that?

Sorry about that bit of confusion. After you've used one of the tools to crop, color adjust, rotate or something, we have to give it a different URL or your browser will not bother to fetch the adjusted image.

I think the easiest way to get the image URL is to click the "share with friends/forums" button you see below each photo. Here's a quick help section about it: http://www.smugmug.com/help/picture-sharing

Hello Patrick down in Atlanta... I want to Thank both you and Sid for alll of your effort. This has been driving me nuts. Thank You for the affirmation... I knew that IE was not responding the way I was being advised that it should.
This being said... This episode prompted me to solve the issue another way... My father made me aware that Mozilla had it's new browser available, and so I have downloaded Mozilla (5.0) 1.7b... The Right Click on Works, and I can easily extract the info needed. I will however go through all of the instructions that you sent and give it another try in IE... But to be honest, I have been dissatisfied with IE and Mac mail, so now I have another option at my disposal.

So guys, thank you so much for pushing me enough that I took the leap and made the change. Hopefully this will be one of my last IE correspondences.
    Thank-you, Thank-you...
    Regaining normal BP,
    I remain,

    ginette

Now I can kick back and relax a bit...

If you are linking from a smugmug account you also need to make sure that you have the following settings on your "customize gallery" page
    "external links" = "yes"
"larges" = "yes" (pro accounts only & assuming you want to post a large picture:D)

I want to chime in too to say thank you. It was driving me nuts too that I did not find how to do multiple post attachments.
Finally I found it. In safari on panther, it is indeed go to the page where your pic is, copy link into new window. The URL from the new window then goes in the post, after I clicked on the yellow image window.
    It works a charm now...

Thanks to all who worked on this problem.

You can shorten the steps on that if you switch to Firefox. Then when you right click or Ctl click (with single button Apple mouse) you will get a menu with "Copy Image Location" Then after you click insertimage.gif you can hit cmd-v to paste in the location. Completely cuts out a window creation.

It seems like you're trying to attach a photo, right? My recommendation is that you skip right over the attaching thing (lots of ugly limitations and bandwidth considerations) and post your photos on a sharing site (like smugmug), then direct link them. You won't have to worry about size issues then. Except from moderators when you post a 50k x 120k pixel image. :D
