So I ask the community at large, do you realize that without some sort of "wholesale" style pricing, packages aren't going to be the huge party in your wallet that you seem to think it will be. Yes, you may generate more sales, and yes, it will be easier to fulfill, but you'll be leaving significant profit on the table.
Ummmm... if you generate more sales w/less effort, that means you can spend your time doing what you like to do instead of doing order fulfillment, which more than offsets the 'profit left on the table'.

Coupons are in testing.
Packages are in aggressive development.
I've posted about stock numerous times.

Would you like us not to solicit feedback?
How can we give you feedback on a feature we don't have? and in the case of the stock photo thread it came across as a feature that was going to be implemented shortly. And a lot of your feedback threads are people asking when or complaining that it is not done yet.

Thanks. However you may feel about these threads, our intentions are pure.
a) No one is happy about packages and coupons taking as long as they have. I don't mean to let Smug off the hook--no matter how friendly Andy and the rest of the heroes are, they certainly have some anti-business policies. (Release dates, release dates, release dates.)
I'm convinced that they are (stubbornly) locked into their policies, so there's little point in complaining any more. Andy: I know that SmugMug does not intend to hurt our business, but I'd be a lot more comfortable if I had something to plan off of.
dbveto: If you have problems with these individual issues or the general trend, you need to leave, because there's no indication the trend that leads to these issues is going to change. Smug isn't going to start outsourcing, hiring teams of new programmers, or announcing deadlines tomorrow.
b) Soliciting feedback from an idea is possible. Yes, it's not as concrete as soliciting feedback from something that is already implemented.
Please don't mistake my blunt, pointed posts as my being "angry," "short," or "rude."
Heh. Do you think we're holding back? Have you seen the size of our team?
I'm no programmer, but I think when a programming project takes more than a year, the ends it intends to serve should be outsourced to a different company. Basically, a shortcut needs to be taken. A temporary solution offered. I know, water under the bridge now, we're too close on packages and coupons to want to change things now.
If you assume pretty significant returns for SmugMug and pros in increased sales from coupons and packages, it makes economic sense to spend more $ on the development of those features--or hire an outside firm who already has the 'equipment' in place to come in and provide the service.
I don't think you're holding back wrt the plan, but I do question the plan. (Hindsight is 20/20.)
What are you doing answering client complaints on a Sunday?! Go watch some football. You're too devoted Andy.

Ok I guess your right I should just shut up and not question the workings of a service I pay for.rolleyes
AND FYI I am at least looking at other sites.

I know having a single developer working on a large project result in the project taking significantly longer than if the project was sliced up into different pieces and multiple developers assigned to work on the individual parts.
If said developer starts burning the candle at both ends, then the laws of diminishing returns sets in....

ok we now have coupons which is great but how much longer before we have packages. I am looking to use them together
Same here. I'll still need to switch over to EM temporarily until SM gets packages. Coupons are nice, but they're not so useful to me unless I can combine them with packages.

But how much sense is that to have to pay for two services?
Right no for me the only difference between Smugmug and exposure manager is the ease of customization. dunno

Well I'm already paying for my SmugMug subscription. I've already promise clients some print packages, knowing that SM would either have them in time or I'd have to pay for a few months of EM.

I am looking to have a site setup that will have all that I need with minimal input from me, so I have more time to take pictures. I really like smugmug but I am blown away by all of the features that EM has to offer my business, some which SM has just added or is promising (coupons and packages). The only differences that I have found is that sm is easyer to customize and they have a more active forum.
If SM could be more definitive on when we would see the promised features it would be easier to decide to stick with SM.
They're on the way! I don't expect too much longer, but it's software, and you never know. I hope we're testing them soon.
Oh are you hinting at a nice Christmas present for all of us?

This discussion has been on going for almost a year I get tired of vague answers. What is it a week, an month or another year. When my job has a software deployment we have a time frame that we give to the users, and yes we have to make adjustments to that time frame but it is better than saying we will have it soon or we will have it shortly. I would appreciate straight answers so I can make an informed decision.

I don't have a date. All I can tell you is that this is our HIGHEST priority feature to release. We're in aggressive development on it, and hope to be tesitng it soon.
I know you want a date - I'm not giving you one. We're working as hard and fast as we possibly, humanly (and superhumanly) can.
Since testing of coupons lasted about two weeks, hopefully packages should be the same. I think I have two shoots I'll have to go with EM for, but otherwise I should be able to stay with Smugmug.

That's a dangerous assumption to make.
Also, IRRC coupons was in testing for a fair bit more than two weeks.
Until SM's provides more substantive guidance in this area, the only safe assumption you can make is that any functionality "in the works" will not be available for whatever it is you're planning on doing.

I said the same thing when I signed up with EM. Once you get used to paying 10% as apposed to 15% there is no going back. That 5% adds up to real money the more successful I get.
How can we give you feedback on a feature we don't have?
Hey, sorry about the feedback threads. I started most of them with an eye towards getting a better handle on product requirements and didn't intend to set expectations we couldn't fulfill.
After trying them I understand their downside much more clearly and you'll notice that we rarely post about future releases except, on some like packages, to say we're working on them.

I've certainly planned for both possibilities. I'll pay for however many months of EM are necessary. If Smugmug doesn't have packages in just under a year when it comes time to renew, I'm gone.
