Bruce Hornsby/ Ricky Skaggs 2008
This was my first concert shooting with my Nikon D80. I don't know about other people's experiences shooting concerts, but I was really shocked how different digital reacted to stage lighting than the traditional film cameras.
The only way for me to get nice looking shots was using the in-camera spot meter...then of course, photoshop.
Overall, a cool concert to shoot and great music to enjoy.
A few of mine from an open-mic recently.
Seriously poor lighting at this show but some shots came out satisfactorily.
Shooting with a 400D and 70-200 f/4 L (non IS)
Cameras: Gripped 30D, EOS 33 35mm, Ricoh KR10, Sony DSC-H7. Lenses: Canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM, Canon 50mm f/1.8 II, Canon 70-200mm f/4 L USM, Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM. Lighting: Canon 430EX II, Nikon SB24, Konig stand, Stofen omnibounce, 33" brolly, DIY beauty dish + diffusers. Misc: UV+CPL filters, reverse mount adapters, Velbon tripod. Photoshop CS3
St Kilda Festival Melbourne
I'm new to this forum and live music photography, but I do enjoy listening to concerts and taking photos of them. Here are some recent attempts:
The first shots are of Kate Heidke Miller, Nicole Brophy and a band member, followed by Dan Sultan and his band.
Floyd..
I'll take mine pink... Pink floyd is an old group known for spectacular shows with a message. This is "House of Floyd" a traveling band doing the Floyd thing. A small spectacle show, but they do a good job
Shot wide with a 50 1.8
While Pink Floyd is an acquired taste they still have fans, for them - this link. Pink Floyd in Venice '89 (in St Marks Square) an event I missed by ONE day...
I never knew Pink Floyd is a group, i always thought he is a solo singer.
Nice photographs
Nah. No solo "branded" singer, more of a spectacle concert band (no clubs) whose songs had a moral tone (popular in the 60's - 70's). apparently torn apart by egos and in fighting.. too bad, they had a good franchise.
Voyager CD launch
Here's a few shots from a local bands' CD launch here in Perth, Australia a few weeks ago. There were 4 bands in total, lots of metal in the air.
Joyn Mayer @ Sound Academy (half way back using LV over my 5'2" head for the first time, dodging arms, heads and a sea of P&S vying for 15 min of fame on YouTube). Then there were the girls trying to squeeze past us screaming "pick me John, pick me". As if...

Nice Patti. I vowed to myself I'd never go to another Mayer concert until the fans grew up a bit....that was in 2004. Not sure that's going to happen until this guy is in a walker! lol

I feel your pain. This one wasn't bad because it was a 19+ venue. Even with the screamers, he is just so good live that I can't stay away. You'd notice a big difference in his music now compared to 2004 and the band is so tight.

Lakewood WA Police Guild
These were a few from the local 'KISW Salutes the Shield' fundraiser. All P/S shots, but fun, and worth the price of admission. All Proceeds went to the Lakewood Police Guild and the families of the four fallen officers.
Mike McCready from Pearl Jam playing the Star Spangled Banner
The Chief of The Lakewood Police Dept giving thanks with the off duty Officers who attended
Duff McKagen of Guns and Roses fame doing his part (A friend of Seattle)
Duff McKagen with Jeff Tate from Queensryche doing a couple Guns and Roses songs...Once in a life time for sure.
I know....not great shots...but they raised an inspirational amount of money and support for the fallen officers families.

I moved this to the One Stop Live Music thread. I think it fits in better there than in Street & PJ.
Cheers,
