Travis
This is a scottish band called "Travis". These are all older pictures (I believe from 2001) and they're all from the Olympus C-2040 (a 2.1mp P&S). I've lost the originals (computer died and no back-up) but I had uploaded these to webshots. I resaved them from webshots but with noticable quality loss. Travis performed for a sold out crowd at Washington DC's 9:30 club.
wow...
this thread has legs! i've been off the photography scene for a while because of computer problems and a cash shortage, but I love stopping by and reading the posts and persusing the pics... thanks all

We are the music-makers; and we are the dreamers of dreams.
... come along.
Jam Session in Atlantis club, Alkmaar (Netherlands): (D200, ISO 1600, no flash)
Maedy (D200, ISO 1600, no flash):
Wow, I definatly want the D200 if you can get such NICE quality at ISO 1600, that's on par with the Canon's. Oh dear...I see an upgrade in my future. Nice shots!
great thread!
....just found this thread some great stuff here. While shooting concerts was about the most fun I ever had, it did have its bad moments. Garcia was not fond of photogs in general and on this particular day it seemed personal...I could swear he was looking right at me.
Another tough thing was reloading film quickly in the pit in the dark...when I finally got a motor drive camera it was even worse ....felt like hell when the song was soft and the camera motor sounded louder than the music......still to be a fan and and be feet away was as close to heaven as a deadhead could get......
Shot asa 400 wide open at night......"keepers" were quite outnumbered but on any given night a few would be acceptable. No flash allowed, of course, what I would have given to have my d-200 then and iso 1600!!!
These are a few of my favorite shots from a worship night we do at our church every few months. It's for our +/- (plus or minus) 20 somethings crowd. That's my good friend Mike on drums. He's also in a band called Dawn in the Darkness. Check them out if you ever get a chance.
Music is essential to life!!
Hello fellow DGrinners-
I am new here and found this thread first. I have a husband in three different bands and I take alot of images of them all. I have not found many places were music shots were dicussed. SO, this is real nice! Art, it's real cool to be able to go to major concerts and be allowed in with your camera. I am going to the Beastie Boys concert next month and would die to be able to take in my camera. But, no such luck i'm sure. So, here is a pic of mine. I hope you like it!
Here is another image of mine for this post. I agree it is hard to capture the drummer for lack of light or too much stage lighting. This pic is of my husband and thankfully they are performing out doors. Let me know what ya think!

My son and friends put together a band over the past few months and performed Sunday for their friends. I had trouble focusing in the darkness but was able to get some shots that I think capture the fun they were having.
these two are brothers, it was great to see them playing together
the obligatory "too cool to smile" drummer, my son of course
Datarock @ Johnny Brendas in Philadelphia
I won tix to this show. Datarock is a band from Norway, part of a genre that some consider to be the 'future' of dance music. They are a little bit Talking Heads, a touch of Devo, a smidge of Happy Mondays, and a sprinkle of Echo and The Bunnymen. High energy walking bass driven synth laden, guitaropop. Johnny Brendas is a tiny little NE Philly bar with a cool 2 level performance space upstairs.
Um
Here are some shots of Umphrey's McGee I took at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH. These were taken with my Sony DSC - H5 from behind the sound board. I had a couple of tapers right in front of me and the sound board's power supply must have ran up to the balcony b/c there were a bunch of cables hanging down in front of me as well. A few of the pics had he mics that the tapers were using and some of the cables in them and there has been no pp on these photo's yet b/c I was so excited when I saw this thread that I had to share. Hope you enjoy!

"Set the Gear Shift for the High Gear of Your Soul"
I don't usually shoot concerts, but I was asked to shoot the performers at an IrishFest awhile back. Here's one of my favorites and links to some other galleries if anyone has time and cares to look.... there are a lot of pics
I went to a friend's show last night and shot a few frames:
The lighting was surprisingly bright but, like earlier posters, I discovered that the red channel was blown out by the stage lights, despite the fact that the histogram looked okay on the camera. Thank goodness for shooting RAW

A new place, Chaplin's Music Cafe opened in the neighborhood. A great environment to hear music and meet the musicians.

Took these last night at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco.
Lighting was crap for Ari because he was to tall for the spot light on the small stage. Very few times was his head illuminated.

Thanks for starting this great thread.
For me it is all about capturing the emotion the musicians are projecting with their music.
I shoot with a D70. These shots are mostly at street festivals.
