I always dreaded those getting to know you segments of group meetings/gatherings, especially when it came to "So, what do you like to do or tell us about your hobbies" because until recently I didn't have a hobby. I enjoyed doing almost anything in moderation and although I was comfortable with this, most people weren't sure what to do with that answer (lots of shifting from side-to-side) However, I think now my interest in photography has blossomed into a full-fledge hobby. And saying Hello to you all is very exciting!
The following image was created out of an assignment (self-portrait) a friend of mine placed to me in order to help me understand the plane of sharpest focus and DOF using manual focus.

Deanna,
Great job! I like to be BEHIND the camera, but I've attempted a few self portaits and I always fail miserably. You did a great job! Welcome! I'm still new here myself, but the people here are great!

Hi there! This is my first self portrait, which was taken with my first digtal camera back in 2001ish. It was just an Intel Pocket PC Cam but it was enough to get me hooked
I'm a high school teacher in Kansas who enjoys taking pictures of anything-- but I have spent the last year seriously focusing on Wildlife, Landscapes and birds with my Canon S2 IS. I branched out a bit over the past 6 months and did several outdoor portrait-type shoots for family and friends. I used to say "I don't do people" but after doing well with my first (human) portrait pics, I started to think otherwise. I also have photogenic pets, including 2 labrador retrievers that I chase around with my camera.
I just bought a Canon Rebel XTi during the Black Friday sales at Best Buy and I'm excited to learn more about the technical aspects of photography. I've got "an eye for it" according to some people, so now I want to get better on the technical side. Any and all advice is appreciated.
I'm excited to find a forum with so many great resources!
new guy from the cold
Hi all,
I just joined dgrin,
I'm from montreal and I want to share some thoughts with the community.
Here's a self-shot I made last winter with a little point and shoot.
Greetings From Cubicle 19877345-B
Decided to use the built-in camera on my new laptop since I don't lug my Canon 20D to work... Nice to be here. Or to borrow a line from a famous comedian, "Hell it's nice to be anywhere!"
My first post
Okay so you have encouraged me to make my first posting. Not that I am new to forums at all but certainly new to this one. Have been "foruming" for about 13 years now since dare I say the old bulletin board days. This is me and my good lady wife Ruth:
Lets hope this worked.
I have just up graded my Smugmug account and been playing around with cusomising my page. I have a long way to go and lots to learn so I will be looking to you experienced guys for some guidence.
I need to have a good look around and see what goes on here and what has already been written so I don't ask the same dumb questions all over again. For a beginning I am just looking to make my Smugmug site a little more professional looking and personalised. What I have started with won't be what I end up with. I am just slowly learning how to adjust things and can see me changing things quite often.

Welcome
What P&S camera did you use? (If you don't mind me asking.) Great Photoshopping too.

Wow, I totally thought you were joking about the location. But, I clicked on it and the map I also saw; Yarragundry, Gobbagombalin, and Gumly Gumly. You have got to live in the coolest place ever. Welcome!
My brother and his family was visiting for my son's graduation from The College of William & Mary and he thought he would take a shot of me and my best friend (my wife!) while we were waiting for our dinner to show.
Now, since this is supposed to be a self-portrait, here's another one of me my wife that I actually took a couple of years ago.
Although I have been a member here since this time last year, I have been rather quiet. So let me remedy this by welcoming you "newbie". I see the second photo is only a half photo. Was that how it is meant to be or is there a problem with the file?
It is always nice to see photos of members. I think it personalises forums such as this and helps to keep the whole feel friendly.
Hello and Thank You
Hello everyone. Feel like I know a bunch of you already from all the support I have been getting. What a great site this is just wish I came across it sooner. Hope to get to know more of you as time goes on. Thanks again for a great community of friendly, knowledgeable people. This is me. A self portrait shot about a year or so ago.

Kind of New here...First time Posting
Sorry it took me awhile to post, but being in the Navy and not really having a Great of a Internet Connection is kind of difficult to stay on the internet without the connection dropping. Darn ITs onboard my boat. I'm one of them, but I control monitoring the network, not the internet connection.
I've been a Amateur Photographer since I was in High school, but decided to take the plunge into Photography about two years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. The camera is...umm...kind of attached to my hand and I'm not letting go of it. I think I love my camera more than anything else. J/k No seriously...I've taken over 11,000 photos in the past 1 1/2 years (since my daughter was born)...that's going to the extreme, huh?
I used my 35mm at first and then went out and got a new Digital Camera the beginning of August of 2005 since I lost my old digital camera...I got myself a Casio and didn't realize how popular that camera was until I found out my step-brother and my Step-Mom had one. Then this past year, my hubby bought me a Olympus E-500. He knew I wanted to have a Canon, ,but I changed my mind at the last moment since I've owned a Olympus before when I was younger and never had a problem with them. I love my new camera. My Hubby does to. Next year though, I'm going for a Nikon.
I run my own Photography Business now with my Hubby (in Virginia) and my bestfriend (who lives down in Florida). My daughter and my cat are basically my first models ever for my New Camera and my daughter I think is getting irritated by the camera sometimes.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and I'll start posting more after the Holidays. I'm going to visit family up in Maryland real soon and I have a Great Photo Opportunity up there since most my family is scarce during the Holidays, but not this year.

hi lord richard. i think you will like it her. the folks are very nice and help when you need it. everyones bene a lot of fun. post those shots soon.marry christmas. rick.
I have been lurking on here for a few months, now I decided it was time to sign up and join the fun. I started out a number of years ago with one of those classy 110 cameras. Had that for a while, lots of family vacation photos with my parents. I then moved onto a Pentax K-1000 with a 50mm lense and a 70-200 mm lense (that just let the insides loose this past summer). I have had a few other cameras along the line, and used some others but these are the ones I have the most experience with. For Christmas this year the wife gave me the OK to buy a Fuji S6000fd, now I just need to get it ordered and start taking some photos.
Looking forward to shooting advice and photo tips in general.

I just finished reading all 73 some odd pages and apparently I never posted my mug... My name is John and I am a student/programmer from New Jersey, currently am 20 years old. I realize I am insanely late... but better late then never, right? Anyways, this is me and my gf as you all know already!
Okay I have been on here for quite some time and never posted my mug- mostly because I don't take pictures of myself.
Per a friends request to see some of me (yes she is an attractive girl) I broke out the tripod, FL36 flash, and proceeded to shoot a few.
Thanks to her I am finally showing my mug around here.

Hello everyone!
Hi, my name is Marina and I live in FL with my 2 fur kids, 1 skin kid, and boyfriend of 11 years. Nope, not getting married, been there done that!
I work in a mortgage industry and like it, but I'd rather be on a permanent vacation.
I'm quite new to the photography, and I know I'm already becoming addicted. Do you offer 7 step program?
I hope to get a lot of help and learn all there is to learn from all the smartie on this site. Will talk soon!
