It looks like we'll be able to make it to Canmore around the 20th clap.gif and I know I can scrounge up a daggy hat or two to add to the group photo.

And, anyone want to do prairie instead of mountains for a day? I am quite partial to the foothills - the area leading up to the mountains - and south of Banff they can be spectacular. I love the area around Pincher Creek. But there is real prairie further east.

I'd also like to suggest we stop at Head Smashed In World Heritage Site (google it), and think about detouring to Drumheller and or Writing on Stone Provincial Park.
I know nothing about Canada or the area, so I'm up for anything! (Except bugs, no bug farms or bug museums and I'll be happy!) :D<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/clap.gif" border="0" alt="" >clap

Also, I've been looking at flight and I see this one : September 18, 2007 <basefont>8:00 am Depart Baltimore (BWI) - Arrive Edmonton (YEG) 12:26 pm. Hi Christina

We can plan on meeting you at the airport and heading straight away then. Lets say clearing customs and collecting luggage takes til 1 or 1:30. We can have a leisurely drive to Jasper and get there at or just after supper time - I'm being generous for photo ops, but the road to Jasper can be quite dull until we get to the park gates.

However, if we get to Jasper late the 18th then I think we should plan on getting to Canmore the 21st - two days shooting around Jasper, a day for the drive on the Icefields highway. Then we would have 2 days for Banff, a day to travel to Waterton through the foothills (pretty views!!), and then over to St. Mary on the 25th.

Now, instead of going into Waterton Park, we could stay in Lethbridge - especially if we think we are going to be pressed for time.

OR PLAN 2: We give up a day in Canmore/Banff since we are driving the Icefields highway and the scenery to Canmore will be what we would look for from Canmore. Gives us some time in Waterton, which is unique and really pretty. Hmmmm, I'm liking plan two better.(19, 20 Jasper; 21 Icefields to Canmore; 22 Canmore/Kananaskis; 23 drive to Waterton via Highway 22; 24 Waterton; 25 to St. Mary)

Christina - how are you travelling home? Are you returning through Edmonton, or from the U.S.?

Hehe, I have NO idea yet. It's pretty much the same price if I fly into Canada or if I fly into the Montana, so I'm sure the same is true in reverse. Any suggestions?

I'm going to go ahead and book my flight to Edmonton for the 18th. :):

Plan B sounds awesome. wings.gif But, I'm good with A too. :) I'm really helpful, huh?

No, um. In Maryland, quite farther south it's considered Autumn. In the North, in the mountains? I haven't a clue. I googled Banff, did you know it's the highest Canadian town? Anyway, Here are average temps for the year and average rain/snowfall for the year.

Ann,

I could be available for the pre-shootout and possibly the post-shootout. However, I would like to make a suggestion. Please start two separate threads for each as it would be less confusing to an old guy like me when trying to ferret out the details of each. :D

Hi Dixie

I'll ask the mods to change the thread title. Good suggestion.

Originally, I wanted to explore the trip based on who was interested. Then I decided, from a weather point of view, preshoot was best. And it worked for skippy so it is all falling into place.

Could be others working on a post shoot - maybe to Yellowstone.

So, ya game?

Well, skippy, for someone that doesn't own a jacket, I think it will feel like the north pole. Technically it is fall. However, depending on storm activity the leaves could be gone and there could be snow on the ground. I definitely expect snow in the high country. But mountain tops should have snow on them - makes them prettier.

When you get here, we can make some decisions about shopping for appropriate clothes.

ann

and, btw, it might be hunting season - definitely mating season - the elk should give a darn good display!

Great photo ops, skippy, of a pair of bull elk sparring.....as long as you have a really, really long lens.....I do think the wildlife opportunities will be very good. Of course, respect for wild animals cannot be overemphasized.

Skippy - the rules here regarding passport photos say 'no smiling, no glasses, no exposed skin (arms or chest)'. You should see mine!!!! UUuuuugh

Thought I might tease a few more people into joining us. Here is a link to the accomodation I am arranging in Jasper:

Jasper Accomodation Confirmed
Hi

Heard back from my friend. He has booked 2 different cabins for us.

If it is only the three of us then he has booked a Heritage Cabin - 3 beds, kitchen, fireplace.

He has also booked one of the larger chalet's - basically adjoining rooms with a shared kitchen and beds for up to 8.

I will need to confirm these sometime, so if anyone else is interested please speak up.

He has promised a 'very good rate' - we are old university friends. He is also going to put me in touch with one or more local photogs for guidance on where to shoot at what time of day.

And, to top it off, he is a great cook so we may get a good meal out of the deal!!!!!!
