That's why you need to practice up on shooting panos! thumb.gif Especially in Glacier, it is just impossible to take everything in without shooting a pano, IMO.

BTW, there is a saying in Montana (lots of places, I'm sure). "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes". :D I think you all will experience a little bit of everything, from sunshine to rain to snow. It should make for some incredible pictures!

Ha Ha. thumb.gif You are right on track there. Once I have some green, my next lens purchase is going to be the 10-22. mwink.gif Everything I've seen from it looks good, but it is a bit out of my price range at the moment.

Bigma is on it's way to California and Nikon 12-24mm is on it's way to MD. :ivar

I've also just bought a little point and shoot for our quick candids, for instant embarassment. Polar bear and Moose jammies included. rolleyes1.gif '

Oh, and if we take some of the exact same shots and Canon really performs so much better I may be another convert. At the low-end Nikon was cheaper. This doesn't appear to be the case when I get into the higher dollar items, and once you get the nice stuff it's hard to downgrade. We'll see though.

    Today I bought:

    1. Hiking boots
    2. Moisture wicking long johns
    3. gore tex jacket with hood
    4. lightly insulated jacket (with hood) with waterproofing on the sleeves and shoulders
    5. hiking pants - pretty sturdy, packable khaki's with lots of zipper pockets.
    6. two pair comfy socks - I had bought this great pair of socks last year, and have wished I'd bought a lifetime supply cuz I cannot find them anymore. So I am hoping these ones will be as good.

Still need a nice pair of gloves - thin enough to manipulate the camera controls with.

    Accomodation Change

The Condo in Canmore has fallen through.

I am looking at alternatives, especially in the foothills just outside of Kananaskis (I love this country side - think western movie landscapes).

One possibility I've found thus far:

    http://www.anchord.com/cabin.htm

Turns out Sept. 22 is Melissa's road race in Banff - world famous marathon. No accomodation to be found in Banff or Canmore. Have not checked Lake Louise, but I'll bet it is the same.

Booked our hike at the nature reserve for the 22nd, so we need to be nearby. Maybe look at one night in/near Calgary then one night at above (Black Diamond) then on to Waterton.

Me too! I've taken this week off work to get some projects done before skippy gets here, and, well, I am not doing real well.

In addition to having some landscaping projects to finish, I've got some major housecleaning/organizing to do, renos that I hoped to get done and then there is the new camera body/flash to master....

hw many days did skippy say? eek7.gif

Well, skippy, it really needs to get done - projects that have been on hold for a couple years due to lack of funds can now be resumed. And that means prepping for them - which is what I hope to do with my week. Bring me a dumpster and away I go!

And I refuse to buy my mac til my office gets a makeover.

You better watch out Skippy, it sure sounds like Ann intends on putting you to work. As for the Vegemite. OK, so it's not peanut butter, but what exactly do you use it for?

So on another note, I either need a camera that goes up to ISO 1million or I need to learn how to use a flash better. I did OK over the weekend but nothing I'm extatic about. The 24 1.4 and 16-35 were pretty nice, especially the 24. With the 24, even at f/1.4 and ISO 3200 I was only shooting at 1/30th-1/60th. Maybe I'll even post a couple shots one of these days.

    Hey Nick

Good idea, hadn't even thought of enlisting skippy to help out!rolleyes1.gif

Where/what are you shooting in - a dungeon?

I have the 580 now, but I am a long way from knowing how to use it - tried for some hockey photos, and when it went off it was okay, but I had a setting wrong I'm sure because it wouldn't cycle fast. Then I drained the batteries........by practicing between teams!!!rolleyes1.gif

I did have - the Canmore condo had laundry facilities. I will see if I can find some for those nights - for sure Jasper and Waterton will have coin laundries.

Haha, I used to do the laundry when I lived with roommates. Jackson especially would leave his laundry half done, in the way. It was simpler to just finish it up.

But, I live in a rather rural area and I've never been to a laundramat. Do they have little mini-size detergents for sale there?

I'm thinking, for the sake of those travelling in my van, I'd better give up broccoli slaw and humus for a while!!!

Still need to confirm accomodation on the 22nd - the place I chose will only accept a 2 night booking.

A colleague is getting married in Jasper this coming weekend - he has poor planning - coulda had a whole group of wedding photos, couldn't he?

    Long Range Weather Forecast

14 days for Edmonton (for Skippy):
    highs of 18 - 21 through Monday.

Not so good for Jasper at this point

Too far for reliable predictions at this point.

Yep - degrees C. Gonna freeze here tonight. What concerns me is a storm big enough to blow all the leaves from the trees - greatly reduces photo ops. And I'm a bit worried about paccking enough layers for skippy not to be an ice cube!

I just ordered some "photographers gloves" from B&H. They were only $20 but they don't look to sophisticated. Maybe I'm being taken. ne_nau.gif But, I got two pair 'cause I wasn't sure what size I needed, medium and large.

So, I should have an extra pair clap.gif I almost bought a lensbaby, but I chickened out. Hopefully someone will have one in a nikon mount and take pity on me so I can try one out.
