Re: dgrin meetups
There are several options As I mentioned before, there are TWO nice places very close to each other. First is Rose Valley falls, second is Piedra Blanca. Waterfalls consists of two tiers. The lower tier is like 30 ft tall water slide, all in shade of eucalyptus trees, and is located only 5 minutes aways from a… -
Re: Finally D-E1-cided
I didn't go for the battery grip. Coming from a digicam, I found the E-1 big enough as it as, and adding the battery grip added too much for me. I haven't ruled it out as a future option, but that grip doesn't come cheap... Actual images from the E-1 is what sold me in the end. I always liked the E-1, but was scared away… -

Re: Inside, the monster
I like the shot, here is what I see. A strong light source well off to the side on camera left and I suspect that was the only light source used here. Judging by the inconsistent shadows around the fingertips it looks like you might have tried to brighten the left side of the face in post. Also to me the skin tone is a bit… -

Re: Setting up a home studio and (perhaps) starting to sell some photos.
some more from personal experience.... PVC is cheap but it will not hang well over a 9-12' span with out center support (experience here) I use 1 10ft 2"PVC on my portable backdrop holder and since it has no way to roll it (sprocket and chain system) it is a pain to roll a 20' long backdrop up by hand, so I highly… -
Re: Low-Light Action Shots (in need of some help)
Perroneford really nailed it, there are only three variables, ISO, aperture, and a suitable shutter speed. You cannot shoot at small apertures in the dark with short shutter speeds. You CAN shoot in low light at small aperture and low ISOs if your shutter speed can be long enough, but that requires a tripod and stationary… -
Re: A Few Frames of Short Eared Owls
Paul, I am pleased you posted. I do agree that the white blob and the darker bits could be cloned out, although I wasn't offended by them until you pointed them out. I need to study my images more carefully I think. Kathy and I went back out a couple days later, and caught a few more images. This time my best images were… -
Who says opera isn't sexy? :D
Introducing Caroline, a soprano. Has never done a shoot before, but she's now jumping back into the singer sharkpool after having taken 4 years off post-undergrad to get married and have her first baby. There are SO MANY from this shoot I hardly know where to start... but I was so excited I wanted to share! I've been on… -
Project: 580 EX II External Power from SLA Battery to High Voltage Port
Hey all, I'm looking for the electronic nerds around here. I'm working on building the following and I'd like input or recommendations for resources that others might know about. I've got 4 Canon 580 EX II's that I'm shooting with all the time; a lot of out door, on location, compete with the sun type of stuff. Invariably…
