Anyone else have what appear to be dead pixels from the sensor?
At first it looked like my 17" macbook pro had developed a deal pixel in the upper right quadrant,
but after moving the movie window it was on the video...
So upon further examination I have one white spot in the upper right quadrant, and one less visible
red pixel in the lower right of center...
It effects all the video I shoot, and Ive tried a variety of lenses.
Needless to say Im very pissed off about it, your eye jumps right to it no matter how good the
rest of the video looks. I have a trip to hawaii next week and canon advised me to sent it
after my "big trip" since it would take them 10-14 days to examine and repair...
Great, so all the video I plan on shooting for a full week in hawaii will be tainted...
Anyone else ever seen this issue? From any sensor, in any camera?
It is definalty not the black dot or banding issue, I had neither of those, it is a clear dead pixel.
Or as best I can describe it to be, as Ive seen dead pixels on lcd screens and iphones.
It appears to be the exact same thing, but on the camera sensor.
They are also visible on the still shots, but much less noticeable and only zoomed way in.
But in video mode the are very clear and ruin any shot...
I guess Ill be keeping it for my trip, then promptly sending it back for repair...
Might have to send them a memory card with the sample vids & notes so they dont miss it.
Ill upload some stuff later tonight after I sign up for smugmug to host some HD clips.
PS.
I did the firmware update and it did not help.

Every sensor from every maker has a few dead pixels, mostly they are mapped out by the camera software.
Try shooting a video (to get the sensor all warmed up, sometimes the stuck pixels don't show when the camera is cold) then into manual sensor cleaning mode with the body cap or lens on for a few min. The Canon cams all do a dead pixel remapping when you go into sensor cleaning.
If that doesn't work, send it in and canon will fix it.

Thanks, Ive tried sensor cleaning, but Ill give your method a shot & see what happens.
Edit:
No pixel fixing, its going back...
Video to follow, man this sucks...
I can fix the stills I take, but the video is bumming me out.
Looks amazing in full res 1080,but not with 2 dead pixel patches...

A couple more quick shots, and a brief review of the battery performance.
Went out with Grimace and a friend of his Pete this morning to photograph some swans.
Temp was -5 F when we got there.
I took just over 600 shots, the battery info says I have 65% of the battery left, or 625 shots.
Considering that I was chimping a lot, running a 300 f2.8 with the i.s. in sub zero temps, I'd say that it's pretty good.

of course, that's probably only those of us who have one .
as norcalshooter said, B&H seem to have the kit in stock - has been since early yesterday so either nobody's buying or they got a ton. Check the 5d wiki status page for the latest on B&H and others who may have stock and for all the latest news - updating this thing all day
oh, and i have 2 videos online now here at smugmug! They're 720p - have gotten into the beta and can now upload as 1080 but that requires reupload for these 2.
It looks like Best Buy has dropped it from their web site. Have they quit carrying the item?

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

I don't see it listed either. I suppose supply has dropped while Canon sorted out the dreaded "black dot" and banding issues. Perhaps it will show up again soon. (Of course both of those issues Canon has responded to and the fix sems to have been effective for those who were affected.)
I suppose too that demand has dropped recently with the buying freeze most people have towards luxury items right now. Best Buy may have decided to go after a different product mix because of market conditions. They are not in the business of photography, after all.

I don't think they would stop selling it for the black dot and banding issue. I think it is more on the lines of the troubled economy.
I read a lot about the different focusing systems in these cameras, but I have to say, I haven't
had any trouble getting bird shots with any of the Canons I've owned. (300D, XT, XTi, 30D, XSi, 5DM2)
Servo works well, so does just pumping the button half way til the bird is were you want it in one shot.
Well the price in the UK has dropped from £2500 to £2015 since the release date, it's getting more and more tempting but I shall hang on a bit longer, it's tough though seeing all your wonderful images.

Canon often disrupts supply when they are actively working on camera issues in a newly released model.
Best Buy might have seen a drop in sales, for whatever reason, and decided to drop the camera during a product review.

Answer? YES, I want one.
If only I would have had something to do with it.
