My question to those who bought it....did you get the extended warranty?

    I'm told it's $300+ for a 3 year Mack....even if it's dropped, they will replace it.

    Yes? No?

    what a huge drop!

Yes I have one on my 40D as well. I got a 4 year warranty I think. It was also about 300 for me, but my logic was that if I dropped the body it's still way cheaper than my insurance deductible of 1,000 if I have to replace it. Peace of mind is nice with a $2,700 body.

Well the price in the UK has dropped from £2500 to £2015 since the release date, it's getting more and more tempting but I shall hang on a bit longer, it's tough though seeing all your wonderful images.

Don't forget you can get it with the 24-105 for only an ecxtra 250 squidmwink.gif (if you fancy that lens it makes the camera seem even cheaper to my way of thunking)mwink.gif

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

Whoah....I just got one at lunch. My camere dealer says Canon is supplying the camera very well now to stores.

I'm moving from a 30D and this is my first FF body.

My first impression was, "wow the 9 focusing points are so concentrated in the middle of the frame." Is it just me?

I'm excited and nervous at the same time ne_nau.gifbarb

I'm still on the fence regarding the extended warranty.
I like photos especially ones shot by Canons. I'm just another fanboy :ivar

B&H just sent out an email to associates...

"Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera (Camera Body)

We've just received word that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is available in limited stock. Simply "add to cart"; ignore initial "back-ordered" message. "

Here's my affiliate link to the body

The points are in the same place as they are on the 30D. The frame is just bigger.

There are a variety of technical reasons why the AF sensors on FF cameras have to be clustered near the center of the frame and what you are seeing affects all FF bodies.

It looks like Best Buy has dropped it from their web site. Have they quit carrying the item?

Definately not, I was just in a Best Buy on Monday night and they had 1 5DII in stock with more expected this week.

I had the Mk1 and Im still excited too at getting the mk2 - it's a lot of camera!:D

As already said the focussing points are a bit more tioghtly clustered but apparently thers nothing canon can do without changing the body shape/size(to the 1Ds size)

    availability?
If you want a 5D2, please keep an eye on the daily status on the 5d wiki - keeping track of availability several times a day. Right now, there's one online US site showing stock in both kits and bodies

    5D Mark II v. D90 Video Question...
    I have a silly question...

Is the 5D Mark II the same as the D90 when it comes to no auto-focus on video???

    Just curious... ne_nau.gif

If your question is, "Does the Canon 5D MKII use a similar technology to the Nikon D90 to autofocus in video mode?", I think the answer is that "yes" they both use a contrast based AF to focus in video mode (similar to most P&S cameras).*

As to whether they are similar in terms of speed and accuracy I've not seen any specific comparative tests so I don't know.

*Edit: Ooops sorry. I reread your question and checked and you are right, the D90 does not autofocus in video mode. The Canon 5D MKII does have contrast based AF.

Thanks for the answer Ziggy... although now I'm sad... :cry

But I think this has moved me more towards my decision on the D300 instead of a non focusing D90...

I'm jealous of u 5DMkII'ers...:cry :cry :cry Auto-focus at 1080p is an awesome feature...

I think the d300 would have been better anyway.

I am glad that I finally bought a firewire CF reader. I used my USB the other day to transfer 4 gb full of shots from the 5D2 and that took an hour! eek7.gif

The firewire 800 cut that time down significantly! How on Earth have I gone so far without firewire? (Course before Sept, I was a PC user...)

Well... Ziggy knows my dilema between the D90/D300 (still debating btw)...

As for FireWire... I'm a PC (can't afford my beloved 17" MPB... yet) and I have FW400... you could've bought an external FW400/800 combo card and voila... thumb.gif
