The point seems lost on many that Nikon and Canon share manafacturing/ design expertise from time to time. One example is the Canon Lens Cleaner Mark 1 prototype developed by Nikon.

are you a frog-cell scraper who happens to enjoy photography as well, or do you actually get to photograph the frog-cell scraping?

Just curious as a fellow closet living dr type :D

and if the answer is the latter, care to share your scientific images?

....Seriously though, as a company that kind of puts itself forward as the king of wide angle, why does nikon not have a full frame sensor?

    A) Never heard Nikon call itself that, but...
    B) There are problems with Canon's 35mm-size 'full frame' DSLR sensor when accompanied by a wide-angle lens. While the 35-mm size worked fine for WA using film, with digital sensors the 'wells' are actually 3-dimensional. And a wide angle lens tends to send the light in more at an angle. See the problem?

Nikon's DX 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye and DX 12-24 f/4.0 zoom don't share this problem, because they only have to hit the smaller sensor. Nice, eh? 1drink.gif

I've always heard that Nikon's wide angle lenses are generally better than canon's, and that canon edges out nikon in the telephoto department. Unfortunately I have never had the cash to test this for myself.

    • Prolific and gratuitous use of emoticons

    • Tone indicates he knows whether or not he does
    • Answers serious questions with emoticons or nonanswers
