Here's one for Zac: anybody know anything about the BMW E23 745i turbo? I saw one on the highway the other day, mean as heck (and if anybody on any BMW forums has seen someone in NC with a 745i let me know so I can register the forum and PM him...he got off at the same exit as my school).
Yeah only that there are only a hand full in the US. They were never sold here or Canada so it must have been imported.
It uses the same engine as Olivers 535i but has a better flowing head and a kkk turbo. The displacement is only around 3.0L so the 745 part comes from the theoretical displacement that the turbo makes up for. They were only offered in automatics.
I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

If it's not raining I will. No more hotel rooms, so I'll wait until I can get a weasther forecast before I go, drive down on Friday, get there late Friday night, sleep in my car, go to the race on Saturday, then leave Saturday night.
I've mentioned it on another forum where I've made friends in the OT section so I might as well mention it here:
In at William and Mary's law school with a fellowship...WOOT! Now there are really only 3 other places that I have applied to that I would go to.

Once you actually get to law school I'm putting you on my ignore list! "Come on, I'm almost a lawyer, don't argue with me!"
Ok, maybe I wouldn't after looking at the more zoomed out pictures. But still, it's kinda neat.
That is my good friend Brent's car. It's his dream car and he is so sad he has to sell it This 2002 is so fun to ride in. He took me out for a few laps on Lime Rock Park and this thing really goes! I used to have a 2002 but it was a beat old automatic
He is the same guy I bought Teh Smurf from.
(notice the license plates)
His collection also included a very rare e21 Alpina B6 and a badass e30 325i. All are now sold and he now has a 2005 wrx.
If you look in photo 16 on that ebay listing, you can see teh smurf
And I'd rather own a clapped out old bimmer than a new WRX. what an idiot, sorry, no apologizing there. To amass a collection like that, and then sell it for the latest go-fast import-boy rally wannabe? He really is sad, more than he knows.
You can't tell me it was financially better to do what he did. The Alpina would be a fine daily driver, and would have cost him less to just keep it. What a putz.

Did you notice he also lives in VT? Should be fairly obvious that he wants a car that he can drive in any weather.
PS: Personal attacks aren't cool especially when they are toward one of my good friends. I'm sure he has his reasons for selling his cars and it doesn't concern anyone here.

oh come on, ligthen up. this is the car talk thread you big sissy. If you thought any of that was really serious, then you're having a bad day. You of all people should know we don't do any apologizing around here. We talk dirty, and we talk cars, you big freaking hippocrit! How much trash have you talked on this thread about people's decisions about cars?
My comment stands: I'd take an Alpina with a good set of snow tires over a soul-less WRX anyday. And yes, I noticed he was from Vermont. The towns there have plows there too you know.

they why did you jump at the chance to post all about it here?

I just don't see how you guys could subject a car that is so rare to salt and harsh winter conditions.
By being men and going outside once a week to wash the car no matter how cold it may be.
That whole rust stuff is mostly nonsense anyways if the car has a good paint and undercoating job. My car is 21 years old, has always been a daily driver, subjected to salt, and for about 15 years got fairly minimal care for the cosmetics, it doesn't have rust problems. If you get out an wash it weekly, it won't be an issue.
Cars are for driving. If you can't drive a car, then all you have is an expensive and impractical paperweight.

the day the earth stood still: I completely agree with Richard!
I'm a slut for new cars, so I'm not practicing what I preach as much as Richard. I take care of what I have, but I use what I have. My motorcycle, with all its exposed engine parts never gets "winterized". It may sit a little more during the worst weeks, but I ride it nonetheless. On all good winter rides, I swing by the car wash on the way home and give it a warm de-salting bath, then lurch the last 1/4 mile home (I admit this is easier on the bike cuz you're wearing a warm waterproof suit ).
Well we obviously have different levels of appreciation for rare cars... If you want to talk to Brent about it you can contact him on our website http://nmmr.jsedlak.org/

See Zac, you're gonna take this the wrong way, but what do you guys know about rare cars? Answer: what you read (I fall into this category too so don't go all personal attack on me again Mr Sensitive).
Get me Jay Leno's or Ralph Lauren's opinion, then I'll listen. The best thing about the RL collection at the Boston MFA was that each and everyone one of those uber rare cars (1964 Ferrari GTO included) had a modern battery grafted very neatly into the pristine engine bays.

Pssh, forget those guys. Come down to my school, stand in the street, throw 10 stones. One of them will bonk a race car driver (or at the very least a member of a race team) on the head. Ask him. Richard Petty has bump drafted on the highway before, 'nough said.

Andy, since I doubt Zac has the money for this, I think you need to get him an early Xmas present.

That's something I never understood. If he's so sad to sell it...then why sell it?
Now your going to say "but he bought an almost new WRX". He sold all 4 of his BMW's over about 8 months to consolidate space and save money.

Word.
Do you guys realize there are maybe 5 of these Alpina e21's in the country? Seriously.

So...you agree with us that he should have kept that one?
Here's the only question I need answer to know everything I need to know about the guy: is he the one that smurfified The Smurf?
