The moment that you all have been waiting for is here: our official announcement for the SmugMug / Dgrin shootout '07!

We will be experiencing the splendor of one of the most magnificent parks in the US, Glacier National Park, with incredible geological formations courtesy of the last ice age. The Aspens will be golden and the air will be crisp, as we rejoice in the autumnal wonders of this park.

Dates: September 25-30, 2007

Lodging: St. Mary Lodge. We have two levels of 2-bed rooms, and some 3 bed cabins available. Please let us know your preference. All accommodations include private bath. Details:

East Lodge: 4 rms each room has two beds
West Lodge: 4 rms each room has two beds
Family Cabins: 9 cabins (each sleeps 3)

Pros: Marc Muench, Dave Porter, and Andy Williams, will return to instruct, guide and lead our expedition.

Cost: There is no fee for the tuition or attendance of the shootout and workshop! SmugMug picks up the cost of the pros who are leading the workshop. Attendees pay their own way, and pay for the lodging and meals. The exact lodging costs are still to be determined but will be in the range of $75 to $95 per night, per person. The range in room prices is due to the different accommodations we have. It is a total of 5 nights at the St. Mary Lodge (Sept 25-29, check-out is on the 30th).

Food: SmugMug will be hosting a banquet dinner on Friday night, the rest of your food is taken care of individually.

Group: Limited to 40 people. First come, first served.

Payment: Is in two installments. The first payment ($250 per person) is due by January 15th, and the balance (TBD) is due by May 15. Deposits are refundable up until May 15, 2007. Once you have paid your full balance you have bought your room. We can help you find a "taker" if your plans change, but there is no money back after May 15. Payments are made via PayPal, to dsrshops at mac dot com. Your priority is determined by WHEN YOU GET YOUR PAYMENT IN, not when you say you want to go! So don't forget to get your deposit in early!

Activities: Of course we'll be shooting our fingers sore, but in addition we'll be hosting instruction and critique workshops on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a banquet on Friday (workshop included).

Travel: You can fly into Kalispell, or drive. We will be arranging for shared rides and rental cars, and participants will be splitting the cost of rentals/fuel. There will be information threads posted on travel and cars as the Shootout draws nearer.

Signing up: Reply here, but also send an email to David Rosenthal, dsrphoto at mac dot com (NOTE: this is a different email address than the one you will use to pay through PayPal, it is for contacting David, NOT for paying him), and make sure you include your preference for room, if any, and who you will be traveling with, if anyone.

Questions? Ask them here in this thread! We're fortunate this year to have David Rosenthal (DavidTO) helping to organize, and put things together. David's going to handle all the reservations, and will be putting up all the informational threads, as the trip draws near. He's your go-to guy for this trip!

The last two trips were completely filled, so get your reservations and deposits in early.

E mail sent - I am in. Perhaps a pre or post shoot out through some of the Canadian parks - I can do some arranging for this!!! Let me know if there might be interest (Nik?) (post shoot out could include Waterton, the prairie/foothills up to Canmore & Banff - I know condo owners in Canmore and a hotel owner in Jasper, so let me know)

This is pretty exciting - I think I can drive there. Glorious landscapes to boot!

Boy, Andy screwed up this time. He's schedueled the shoot at a time when I don't have a conflict so I'm in.

    NOTE:

First come, first served is going to be judged by deposit, not just saying "I'm in!", so make sure you get your deposit in as outlined above.

Sid, I've checked the weather records; Glacier N.P. has rarely seen a hurricane in modern times.

    Hi Dave
September could be glorious, could be freezing. (but then it can snow in July so....ne_nau.gif ). Hope for glorious but be prepared. The timing is really good for animal sighting, too.
