I've started to get people signing up for the waiting list, and we do expect spots to open up, so if you're interested, get your name to me via the email listed in the first post or in my profile. :D

And we've updated the first post in this thread with the following:
UPDATE 10/18/06: As of now, we are full up. We're looking into getting some more rooms, and we may have some people drop off. If you are interested in coming, please contact David Rosenthal (information below) to get on the waiting list. We are NOT accepting deposits for the waiting list, so please don't send any money until asked to do so by David. He will only ask you to send a deposit if there is room for you on the trip. We do expect spots to open up for this trip.

The David_S85 express leaves a few days prior for the long road journey west. Given the funky weather in late September, the altitude and latitude, this guy will be renting an SUV this time. Or I could take one of these and be there in a jiffy...

If you fly to Spokane, Wa and then train to West Glacier, the train time/cost is 6hrs and $42 (one way). Not bad!
I was thinking the train sounded fun, but from SJC it is overnight to Portland and then overnight again to Glacier, so I was thinking a sleeping car, which was $$$ -- about twice the price of the airplane.

Always wanted to do the train, but it adds two extra days on each end and I was thinking heading back to Banff sounded fun as well. Too many options.

Flying to Spokane and out of Calgary might be the ticket.

    HI all

Seems to be some interest in toruing the Canadian Rockies so perhaps I should start a thread about that possibility. Been thinking a bit about timing and weather....it can be kinda unpleasant here in late Sept/early Oct. I know that the last Post shoot out was Post so that people could carry on with the skill set learned from the shoot out. So - any opinions - pre shoot out would have better odds of good weather and still have some leaves on trees. Post shoot out would, of course, let us build on the skills emparted to us by the pros. Thoughts??

    Tips for first timers?
I know this might be early, but I need to start working on the CFO for "required" gear. Wink2.gif

Any tips on what we should be bringing or will there be suggestions from "da pros" as we get closer?

I know this will be awesome, but as I've never done one of these I'm wondering what they are like.

Concerning the pre-/post-trip trip to Banff. I think it would be best, from a skill standpoint to do it after, but I'm worried about the weather, so my vote would be to do it before, but that is only by something like a 55/45 margin, so not very firm.

I'd say you've got a better than average chance to see snow. Maybe not at
the lower elevation but certainly at the higher ones like Lake Tahoe high.

I'm not sure what nights they are but if they are for before or after, that's cool. But we are limiting the number of attendees so anyone attending the shootout must go through David for a room deal.gif

I have a question, is it possible at all to get your own accommodations and just meet up with the group on occasion when convenient, or would that be totally out of the question?

I'm not for sure if I'd be able to go and don't really know when I'd know for sure. If spots aren't available though, I wouldn't mind just getting my own room somewhere and then meeting up with the group when everyone goes out and shoots.
bored? check out my photo site...and if you have the time, leave a comment or rate some pictures while you're there.

How about flying from San Fran to Seattle, then driving the rest of the way?

    Update:

We added some rooms in the East Lodge. We now have 4 with two beds and 5 rooms with one bed. I'm moving the married types into the rooms with one bed. I hope they don't mind. :D

I'm waiting for deposits from a couple of the people who had been on the waiting list, and for right now we're full up.

There's no one on the waiting list, at this time, however, so if you are interested in coming, I would still suggest getting your name on the waiting list. I do not accept deposits for the waiting list, so all you have to do at this point is express interest. If a spot opens up for you, then I would need a deposit at that time.
