Would like a different gallery image sort when logged in. I keep my gallery images sorted by 'upload date' by default but would like them by 'file name' when logged in.

    Download log
I would love a download log, if a client asks to download an image I have to unlock the whole gallery and then trust that they only download the one file.

You could copy the image to a new gallery that is unlocked, but private, give them the private URL by email, give them x days to download that image and then remove it from the private gallery. The next time you want to do the same thing, you copy the new image to the same unlocked, but private gallery, share the private URL, etc...

My new camera has got an orientation sensor and mow I don't have to bother with rotating portrait format photos, except for that smugmug doesn't rotate those photos automaticly. It would be awesome if I didn't have to rotate them just for smugmug when I post photos directly out of the camera! thumb.gif

    Thanks,

I would like to have views when logged in not listed in the statistics count.
It appears that even viewing the thumbs in the Pro-Sales detail count toward the stats. It would be more valuable to have the stats only show views by other people and not your own meanderings through your site...

I use some galleries to serve photos for my web site, which works out real well because I can upload a single photo and smugmug will generate preview (450x450 limit) and large (800x600 limit) photos for me using the custom rendering feature.

Recently, however, I wanted to increase the size limits of my large photo pages to about 900x700, and now I notice that the images are a little blurry. I assume that's because I have originals turned off and the rendering engine is interpolating.

I don't want to make print-quality originals available for download, but I'd like viewers to be able to see big attractive photos, and I'm hoping you can make this work for me (and, presumably, anyone else who needs it).

Perhaps you can either (a) implement that extra-large size you've been talking about, or (b) allow me to set a numerical maximum size option for a gallery so I can get the size I want without giving it all away. You wouldn't have to pre-generate the size, just let me generate it when I need it.

    Thanks.

After reading some of the confusion with prices in the cart I think adding
columns for the flow down prices that apply would be invaluable.

At the gallery level show the portfolio prices.

I know that this has been asked before, and I know that Andy has said that if was easy to do it would already have been done. That being said I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of people asking that features that we choose to disable for visitors be available for the owner of a site. Download, large and original size views, purchase etc. For me it wouldn't even have to be through the same interface as general users, it could be through the drop down that is used to access the arrange/crop/etc. functions.

I have been a little out of touch lately so I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but it would be nice if there were a "Best of" or "Portfolio" part of a SmugMug account. I envision having a special gallery called "Best of" or "Portfolio" that some photos from other galleries are "copied" to. Kind of like selecting a feature photo this same selection could be done from the drop down menu under the photo. This way we don't have to upload the same photos mutliple times for display in more than one gallery.

Linking galleries from two different Smugmug users
My family just got back from a trip to Nova Scotia. My parents and I both took photos. I have uploaded my photos to my account (http://photos.klettke.org/gallery/3346116#186534633) and my parents uploaded them to their account (http://klettke.smugmug.com/gallery/3345528#186444633). Since these photos are related, it would be nice to be able to view them as a single gallery despite being spread out across multiple accounts.

My suggestion is to be able to link two or more accounts together. I propose giving each gallery a unique ID number when requested for this purpose. I would input this number on my gallery and my parents would use the same ID number on theirs. Then on a linked gallery there would be the option along the top to view only my photos or all available photos that use that unique ID number. My parent's account would have the option to view only their photos or all available photos as well.

As it is, the only way to keep all the photos together is to either upload them all to a single gallery on one account or to provide a link (e.g., http://photos.klettke.org/gallery/1721873) to the other galleries on someone else's site.

Thanks for listening and keep up the great work on Smugmug!

    embedding slideshow to websites
    hi,
    quick two:

    - embedding a slideshow from one's gallery into a website / blog (picasa has this feature... come on, guys, a bit of pride ;)
    - friendlier rss feed - now it gives the whole title and description and tag and everything in mayhem - could there be an option to feed just the photo, or just the title?

    thanks!

lots of suggestions posted here, little time to read.. maybe these are not new, but didnt have time to read all, sorry i just threw them in, gotta run, its almost midnight here, i am so sleepy my eyes fall in my mouth and i have to look thru the teeth.

    cheers

Now you can see up the line what has been set for pricing. No more "why

    Communities suggestions
I've finally discovered communities (how long have they been there?!) but it's a little frustrating to use. A few suggestions:

    1) Organise them - There's about 1000(?) communities but no search other than 'guess the name correctly'.
    i) Add keywords/descriptions and make them searchable - I have no idea what some of them are for.
ii) Categorise communities - rather than having to browse ALL of the communities it would be handy to have e.g. 'geographic area communities', 'sports communities', etc.

    2) Allow more than just the creator to invite people to the group. This would increase their usage. (and am I right in thinking the invite isn't particularly visible, if people aren't already using communities?)

    3) Maybe add a discussion board per community? It doesn't really feel like a community unless I have the option of communicating with the members...

    What do people think?

    Sort Options
Unless I have missed it somewhere, I would like the option in the sort menu of "Random".

The current sort options work great for when you want your photos in some sort of chronological order. BUT, for something like a portfolio, it would be nice to have the option to let the system randomize them for me.

Statistics - exclude my clicking from the statistics, or make it a definable statistic with a drop down asking to include my actions or disregard? I'd like to see what is popular in OTHER people's eyes, not just my own...
I'm with Eriktank on this. I'd like to add my vote for excluding (or separating) admin clicks in the stats. I don't know if stats are up because I like them or because others do.

Digital download pricing and image resolution suggestion
In this thread from TalkieT has a 'major issue' with digital downloads and the way smugmug handles pricing of lower resolution originals. Currently a 900 x 600 and a 3400 x 2300 pixel original in the same gallery are both priced at the same level being the price set for originals by the owner. The only way to price this images differently is to apply one pricing scheme for the gallery and another one for the 800 x 600 image.

My suggestion would be to change this to the following system:

    * If the original image is < 1 mp, the customer should only be presented with one choice to purchase: original (at the price level of a 1 mp)

    * If 1 MP < original image < 4 MP, the customer should only be presented with two choices to purchase: 1 MP (at the price level of a 1 mp) and original (at the price level of a 4 mp)

    * If the original image is > 4 mp, the customer should be presented with three choices to purchase: 1 MP (at the price level of a 1 mp), 4 MP (at the price level of a 4 mp) and original (at the price level of an original)

How about this idea for digital download pricing? headscratch.gif

    Regards -Marco-

    More Options for Privacy
I know this has been requested in one form or another many times over the years (!!) but I'll request it again: I'd like to see more granularity in the Smugmug approach to album privacy and security. Right now Smugmug is great for two things: completely public albums where any random user can see every picture, or completely secure albums where only someone with the password can see any of the images. The current method is too binary (secure or not secure) and is fraught with difficulties and frustrations for me as a Smugmug user.

So I have one specific feature request:

I want to have the ability to flag certain photos within a gallery as private, using an easy and fast batch-mode "click to make private" function. The rationale here is that if there are pictures as part of a gallery that I'd like only friends/family to see (usually the ones where people are acting goofy or slightly embarrassing), I don't want random people to be able to see those images - but I don't mind them looking through all of the other images in the gallery. If friends and family come visit the gallery and enter the password, it "unlocks" all the other images for them, so they can see and order every photo. It's the best of both worlds!

Doesn't address or allow for image-level security but the options are muchmore than "binary" :)

    Two Requests
    Hi All,
I wanted to say that the speed is much better on SM! I am going to renew my subscription for another year come January 1, 2008. :)

I have two requests... More themes and layers!

Themes.... It would be nice to have different types like racing, fishing, lake scenery, city scenes. I am good at HTML but not CSS. I have never trained myself on CSS yet.

Layers... I would like to see two more layers added. I do su-categories and would like to organize some of my pics even more, esecially my travel ones. I don't think that prople would get lost in the addition of two more layers.

    Thanks,
    Kristi

SmugIslands is a great step forward for those people who are concerned about hiding their images from search engines, but SmugIslands doesn't deal with the human factor and all of the issues I raised. I don't mind my images being discovered by Google and other search engines, but I'd love to have the ability to have a single album that would contain all of the photos I want friends and family to see, yet still have the more generic, non-personal photos I don't mind the world seeing. The only workaround right now is to have two galleries, one public and one hidden, then delete the personal photos from the public gallery. That's an ugly hack and wastes Smugmug storage space and resources.

It sure would be great if Smugmug users could vote on features they'd like to see to give you guys a way of priority ranking the feature requests.

Hm.. well, the reason you don't see it now is that folks overwhelmingly don't want to keep clicking and clicking to get there.

Still - there are ways to accomodate this if and folks have gotten VERY creative. Make a post in the customizing forum and ask for some help about it, let the experts show you options :)

    Downloading galeries
Thanks for all your work smugmug!

I have a feature request that might exist that I am not aware of.

Is there a way to download a whole gallery at once. I was not able to do that. It would be nice if we could have a bulk download feature so that if need multiple photos, we didn't have to download them one at a time.

Of course the other way would be to allow visitors to send a note via a form that would go as a site message to the SM site owner. Like comments, but not tied to a particular photo and not showing up publicly. Then the message is viewable via the normal SM messages and we can get email notifications. I'd think that would be useful and maybe easier for you to support since you have most of the functionality in place already.

(BTW, your email notifications on comments would be better if they included the comment and who it is from, not just a link to view it via the SM site.)

Yes, yes oh God YES. I've always wanted a contact form and this is why.
