    Under IE 6 when I run your page thru the Developer Toolbar->Validate->Local HTML option it shows that there are 21 errors on the page. I've cut and pasted the results. I hope this is of some assistance, maybe someone will be able to translate this info.

    This page is not Valid HTML 3.2!

    Below are the results of attempting to parse this document with an SGML parser.
    1. <LI class=msg_err>Error Line 17 column 11: there is no attribute "ID". <td id="tableProps" valign="top" align="left"><img id="pagerrorImg" SRC="resYou have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
      This error may also result if the element itself is not supported in the document type you are using, as an undefined element will have no supported attributes; in this case, see the element-undefined error message for further information.
      How to fix: check the spelling and case of the element and attribute, (Remember XHTML is all lower-case) and/or check that they are both allowed in the chosen document type, and/or use CSS instead of this attribute. If you received this error when using the <embed> element to incorporate flash media in a Web page, see the FAQ item on valid flash.

This error is often caused by:
      • incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Frameset" document type to get the "<frameset>" element),
      • by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "<spacer>" or "<marquee>" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
      • by using upper-case tags in XHTML (in XHTML attributes and elements must be all lower-case.

This could mean that you have incorrectly nested elements -- such as a "style" element in the "body" section instead of inside "head" -- or two elements that overlap (which is not allowed).
      One common cause for this error is the use of XHTML syntax in HTML documents. Due to HTML's rules of implicitly closed elements, this error can create cascading effects. For instance, using XHTML's "self-closing" tags for "meta" and "link" in the "head" section of a HTML document may cause the parser to infer the end of the "head" section and the beginning of the "body" section (where "link" and "meta" are not allowed; hence the reported error).

    I highlighted your problem in red. Try xhtml 1.0 transitional instead. You'll still get errors. Why they're not that big of a deal is a whole other discussion.

    I have a Splash page as my entry page. When I click on Enter website,
    I get an error that says the gallery that I have a slideshow in can not be opened. I have not done anything with this gallery at all, So I have no idea why it would be doing this.

    This link is a screen capture that shows what is going on.

    Wow...I guess that is not the friendly service I have received in the past. I'm like jcox, I don't spend my days doing this and it has been a struggle getting my site up the way I wanted. It has worked fine with no errors and now I see that I am not the only one who is having trouble with IE. .

    I had a very busy day today and just did not have time to deal with the issue right away. Doesn't mean I was not going to. I understand you guys have a difficult task dealing with all of us that are "challenged" but maybe one should not be so quick to deride your customer. Andy suggested posting the problem in the customization forum, but I see others have already done that so we will just leave it at that.
    Ouch - sorry - I'm sure Dev didn't mean to upset you or anyone :)
    We are working on it - we were up very late last night, and again today. I see you also wrote the help desk. When we have some news, we'll get back to you, we promise. At this point, your site is working perfectly for me in ie6, ie7, Firefox, too. So it's a difficult issue to reproduce, and we don't yet know where the problem lies.

    Sorry I don't have a better answer for you but please know that we're doing all possible to figure it out = and no matter if it's user code or SmugMug code, we'll get it fixed for you or with you!

    I understand the frustration in not being able to reproduce the issue, but it would appear I'm not alone. I myself can't recreate it all the time. This morning right away it was there and now it is not. I am patient and know this will get worked out, thanks for the update.

    We're looking into the problem, don't know yet why it occurs. Not sure if it's IE6 or user code or SmugMug code.
    Stay tuned and sorry for the hassle.

    Andy, I ripped out all of my code early this morning to see if I could track down what was affecting my site. I pasted one line at a time and found the code that caused problems for me was the JS that changes my homelink in the breadcrumbs from "lmsportspix" to "home". As of this post, I'm not getting any errors. This is the code I removed from my footer JS.

    var objElement = document.getElementById("breadcrumb")
    if (objElement != null) {
    var str = new String(objElement.innerHTML);
    str = str.replace('>lmsportspix<', '>Home<');
    objElement.innerHTML = str;
    }

    As we know already know not everyone is using this code, so it's not the main problem. What a PITA. If you want to you can put it back into my footer and try for yourself.

    Fix
    Ok, so I think I have narrowed the problem down to the the slideshow hack for the homepage. Some of you have modified the code from the example, and this modified code is causing problems only in IE and when you try to view a smugmug ajax gallery.

    Those of you with problems, please look for this line that is in your footer customizations:
    loadSlideshow();

    The function is being called "inline" for those that care. And it is modifying the DOM of the page before it is ready. So what needs to happen is the function needs to be called when the page is ready and only on the homepage. Use this official code from the tutorial:
     if (YD.hasClass(document.body,'homepage') && !YD.hasClass(document.body,'galleries')) {
        loadSlideshow ();
    }

    Why is this happening now? We are still debating - but the problem is within the modified javascript code for the slideshow and needs to be fixed there :)

    I just got home after a long day of shooting and lo and behold my web site was the guinea pig, sorry I guess! Looks like the problem has been solved and changed in my footer and my site appears to be operating normally. clap.gif

    I would certainly be interested in knowing what you guys think suddenly caused this to appear on a number of sites on the same day. If you get it figured out could you post your findings? Thanks again to nailing this one down. Andy, JT, Barb and the rest of the team...just a great effort again.bowdown.gif

    This works for me as well although I wasn't using the slideshow code - some other stuff instead.

    Question: Which part of the code is it that is causing the wait until the page is fully loaded?
    if (YD.hasClass(document.body,'homepage') && !YD.hasClass(document.body,'galleries')) {
    loadSlideshow ();
    }
    Thanks
