Hello I'm Matt. I enjoy exploring lost & abandoned places, bending bolts, kayaking, rugby, strenuous hikes, blacksmithing, eating > 4000 calories / day, and unexpected swims in the Hudson river with several thousand dollars worth of camera gear. I've been taking pictures for the last 1.5 years (no formal training) focusing on architecture & landscapes. I was referred here by Schmoo & husband. I have a lot yet to learn, and this seems like a very good place to start.

PS - that is me in Schmoo's 'Firestarter' pic seen here:

It might take a while for your infamous deadpan sarcasm to sink in rolleyes1.gif

But I get the sneaking suspicion that your mug will be shown a little more in the near future.... ;)

    Lurk no more
    Hello to all!

    IMG_7467.JPG?imgmax=576

I'm de-lurking here so that I won't feel quite so guilty when I make my next post in the flea-market. mwink.gif
    (buying, not selling)

Anyway, been a lifetime photo enthusiast. Mostly Landscapes and Nature. I just received my 40D last week (my first DSLR) and I'm excited about the all the potential.
My job takes me to some very remote and beautiful parts of Alaska. For the last few years I've pushed my little A80 to the max trying to capture the things I see, (and it's been a wonderful P&S).

I've been active on Advrider for a couple years now, bought and sold lot's of crap.... I mention that because I'll be looking for some lenses in the near future and realize my noob status might limit my potential in the flea market.

I look forward to posting some photos soon. And learning, learning, learning.

    De-Lurking, Be-Lurking
    Hi Folks:

Just joined. I've been a lifelong enthusiast of photography. Started when I was in my early teens, taking pics with an old manual Minolta SRT-201 with a broken needle meter (which I still have although not in great shape). Since, then I've used various cameras, although there was also a long gap there in which I mostly did point and shoot with non-dSLRs.

I am mostly inclined toward landscapes, photojournalism (street, urban), and some portrait work. I am particularly interested in issues of photographic imagination, art, and philosophy. I take plenty of snapshots, and my "throw-away to keep ratio" is high, but I find plenty of joy in the process, and in photography as mindful activity. I tend to develop themes around my photos, and photography practice. I'm always learning.

    Here's an attempt at a self-portrait:

    selfport.jpg

EXIF: Nikon D40, ISO 200, 1/5, f/5.6, No Flash, 55mm (BW conversion and other stuff done in Photoshop CS3)

    Best Regards,

    Hi there,
Thought I'd pop in and say hi. Signed up last month and have been roaming around trying to get my bearings. Still not too sure about the forum - have been slowly trying to figure it all out. So much information and so little time headscratch.gif

I have very few pics of myself as I much prefer to be BEHIND the camera! But I dug this one up from a couple of years ago:

Someday I hope to upgrade to a pro-level but I have much to learn bowdown.gifall hail the photo gods! :D
