Is this related to keywords not showing too?

    holiday cards- "full bleed" cards
Recently, I've been having trouble creating some of the "full bleed" holiday cards (specifically this design: http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/221043777_q7FZt-XL.jpg).

Once the app loads, the image will jump around as if there is an invisible boundary box it's trying to stay within. The image will not go edge to edge like it's supposed to. It's worked before today, I'm not sure if something has changed in SM's side or mine...

This is on FF3, haven't tried IE yet.

Noticed that keywords disappear sometimes too. The entire div #photoKeywords .photoDetail may no be visible. Usually reloading page will bring it back. Using FF 3.0.3.

It's not loading here but it could be a temporary bug and I'm just missing the times that keywords are showing. If they're not back in the morning I'll start to worry :)

    Uploading weirdness
On the last two uploads that I have made, the images are being placed in the gallery in random order. They are organized on my computer in sequential (image #) order, and uploading them in the same order has always worked flawlessly - til now. ne_nau.gif

Help? I really do not want to be organizing after upload regularly.

    What uploader, please?

What gallery? We need to check the gallery sort settings.

    'Simple' uploader.

    The galleries in this subcategory:
    http://canadian-ann.smugmug.com/Sports/639207

I arranged the photos in the Nov 6 gallery last night.

The Oct. 26 photos are still uploading.

With 'Simple' uploader after adding photos right click in the window and pick
details. Click on the column heading "name" and it will sort them in order.

Edit: Just tried it and you're right, they fall in random order.

Okay, next upload I will try to remember.

This is new behaviour though - uploads have always been in the same order as the gallery til now. Have I changed a setting unknowingly?

So, Alan, Andy, is it a bug or have I changed a setting?

Is there a better uploader. When I am throwing game photos up, there are lots and lots of them and they need to be in order to make sense.

Hi, Allen. Saw this post and wanted to advise that I also tried unsuccessfully to upload Name sorted files to a gallery. Although I right clicked for Details and sorted by Name column, then uploaded, the files still arrived 'unsorted' in random order.

Assuming this problem can be fixed, could a "Date Picture Taken" column can be added to the Simple Uploader Detail Sorting along with Name and Modified? Apparently the only option is to set sort in Gallery customizing to Date Taken after uploading? Is this a feature Smugmug can consider?

Anyone? I tried IE7 as well, and the same thing happens. The card designer app won't let me go edge to edge with the design I mentioned above. It just jumps around and sticks to an invisible boundary...

Edit: added some screen shots since everyone loves pictures:

As you can hopefully see from the screen shots, the image is stuck on the one side of the frame, and I'm unable to grab it to make it go edge to edge....

I haven't used that desing before, but from your screen shot I think it is working like it is supposed to. I don't think (and I could be wrong) that it is full bleed. Have you done full bleed before?

I've not been able to use FF for uploading for a couple months, so unhappily switched to IE for that. But right now, nothing happens when I click on "Add Photos" and choose "add to this gallery". Nothing at all. As a side-note, does anyone know whether the MyCanvas coupons expire at midnight THEIR time (Mountain) or MY time? I may be up late if I can't get this uploading to work somehow! Thanks! for any help!

Answered in your other thread - you likely need a java update.

We have found that updating your current installation of java will typically resolve this issue.

Follow these steps to make sure your java is up to date for a PC:

    1) Go to http://www.java.com

    2) Click on "Do I have Java?" and wait for the test to run.

    3) Follow the steps to get the latest version of Java if you need it.

Please let us know if you continue to have problems.

*I've updated Java.* Doesn't seem to have any effect. And* the strange thing is that the most recent message I get if using FF to try uploading (today-- and it's actually the first time I've gotten a message) is a pop-up from Javascript saying I need an OLD version of Java to get this to work.* I believe it says I need 1.6 oem ?? And then that pop-up won't go away, and just multiplies if I try to X out of it or hit cancel.* I had to shut down the computer to get rid of it.* But with IE I can't even get as far as the uploader box, because as I said, nothing at all happens when I hit "add photos".* I'll try updating Java one more time I guess, in case something's new in the last 48 hrs. or so?? ...* will let you know if it works.ETA:* I just went through all the above steps.* Java did not exactly tell me whether I already had the latest or whether it was updating it for me, but it basically said I was good to go... I think I already had it.* I got the little jumping icon that it said I should see if everything was cool.* The odd thing though was even when I used your link to get to Java, I got the same Java Security Warning that I'd gotten earlier-- that I needed an earlier version 1.6.0- oem in order to get this to work!* But anyway, so I thought I was OK with Java.* I then shut down everything & came back here.* Same results.... IE won't even give me the uploading options, and with FF I get the pop-up from Java Security which won't go away. It specifically says also that the required version of Java 1.6.0-oem is not the latest and may not contain the latest security updates. I have not tried clicking on "run" to run it.* I'm afraid to do that....* I don't really want to go back to some earlier version of Java anyway, right??* Wow, this is a conundrum.* Goodness, now I'm getting little asterisks all over the place. Not my day.

I'm still not getting anywhere with the above. Cannot even do anything on the java site because of the security pop-up. It wants me to use an old version of Java to get the new version, yet I can't because the security pop-up is in the way of everything-- can't even move it once it pops up. Highly aggravating. I'm afraid I'll now miss the MyCanvas deadline, and it's a whole $30 coupon-- bummers. (have to upload some additional photos to use in the book & can't upload with either browser)

So I was looking though Java's help section to see if I could find anything on this. They have nada. All I can suggest is trying to do a manual update for it.
    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_update.xml#manual_update
Or if that doesn't work then try clearing out Java and doing a fresh install to the current version.
Also if for some reason this can't be cleared up before your coupon deadline hits just email us at help@smugmug.com and we will have Markham get you set up with a new one.
I hope this clears it up for you though.

Me again. (and btw, Thank you Eric!) I don't really think this is a SmugMug problem, but since I was in this thread w/ it already, I'll just add the latest on the saga! No, I wasn't able to use my coupon. I did get Firefox to upload 2 photos & did not experience a crash. I haven't tried to upload more-- will soon. But it was so late by then & I had some major problems with the book creation (photos suddenly distorting into horizontals from vertical-- have no idea why.) Anyway, here's where we are: We got rid of old Java & installed new, manually as suggested. Also installed FF update that just came out. That fixed the Java warning pop-ups; no more of that & as I said I could upload 2 pix. But IE is still completely un-usable for uploading. If I click on "add photos" in any gallery, nothing happens at all. So somehow IE & Java are not talking. One add-on we have is CoolIris, but the problems started before that. And we never had problems with IE until yesterday. My computer guru is at his wit's end with this, so if anyone has other suggestions, I'm all ears. One thing we haven't done is completely un-installed IE or FF. Hoping to avoid that.... Keep me posted!

    Hi, Eric

Been following WinsomeWorks upload problems. I have a somewhat different but similar problem with the Simple Uploader that may give some hints on the problem.
In addition to Smugmug, I occasionally use Mpix to upload/print photos. Apparently both Smugmug and Mpix use the same Aurigma Inc. Java uploader. Both say "Applet com.aurigma.imageloader.ImageUploader started" (screen bottom left) when initialized. The upload process works fine for Smugmug but freezes in Mpix. When the Mpix Upload button is clicked after files are selected, the "Upload Files" progress popup window comes up and freezes...no files are uploaded and, in fact, cannot cancel or close the window until I close the Mpix tab? It is perplexing for sure.

Repeat...upload works fine for Smugmug. Here is what I found:
    1. Went to Control Panel/Java Control Panel/Security/Certificates.
    2. Looked at Trusted Certificates/User.
    3. Found (2) separately listed Aurigma Inc certificates issued by Thawte Code Signing CA. (Can't tell which is for Smugmug or Mpix).
    4. Both certificates are same version but different serial numbers, validity dates, signatures, fingerprints.
    So, my questions:
    • Could having two Jave certificates for Aurigma be the problem? Does the system read the first certificate and stop if it doesn't match? Say that the first listed is for Smugmug and the second listed is for Mpix and I am trying to upload to Mpix. Would the uploader freeze in Mpix?
    • If so, is there any way to fix the problem? Are both certificates needed?

    problem with buying holiday cards
I am having a problem buying holiday cards with both Firefox 2.0.0.18 and Google Chrome 0.3.154.9 with Flash 10.0 r12 on Windows XP.

I used the Owner Buy Cards option from a photo in one gallery. I picked a 4x8 flat, Christmas, #5 from the left. After centering the photo I chose Save for Later. It spun, and then said that it had saved the card in My Creations. I clicked on that and it showed me a truncated card from someone else entirely. Looked like Disneyland or something.

I then tried the above steps again, but chose Buy Now instead. I chose 100x of the Glossy. It spun awhile, then said Done and offered me a button to proceed to the shopping cart. I hit "go to shopping cart" and I got an empty shopping cart.

I did the above steps with Firefox v2 and got the same response.

Is there some sort of bug in the holiday card maker or am I doing something wrong?

(I have also sent mail to help@smugmug.com.)

Agallia, your thoughts on this are interesting. I upload to other places for different purposes, too -- mainly for stock. I've had trouble elsewhere as well, not just here. And I promised an update-- well, the very bad news is that I can't upload with FF either. The upload appeared to be going fine, but nothing appeared in my gallery after several hours when I tried uploading 10 photos w/ Olde Faithful. I assume it crashed FF again. So I can maybe upload 2 photos at a time now, and that's it!! So something in the past 2 days made this take a turn for the worse-- it now affects IE AND FF, and wasn't helped by manually installing a new Java or updating FF. I'm supposed to upload a gazillion group photos for band & can't give any date by which I'll be able to..... aaargh.

The Uploading problem!!! Anyone, anyone with more help here.... I'll be tempted to send food, hugs, kisses... I'm now in a worse position than ever. Cannot upload to SmugMug with FF or IE. :cry Am pulling my hair out. We have now un-installed FF & replaced with newest. We re-installed most recent Java, manually. With IE, still no uploading option will even appear at all. With FF, I tried uploading just 5 files with Olde Faithful. After 1 1/2 hours had gone by (& it appeared to be still uploading) I checked and the gallery is still empty.... not one file uploaded. Btw, we use Vista. No other browsers are installed- just FF & IE. We use FF 99% of time; we only go to IE when all else fails. Oh, I hope someone has an idea. The strangest part is why IE isn't working. FF & java problems have been going around in past months. But IE ? And uploading options not even appearing?! Strange indeed. --Anna Lisa

    Hi, Anna,
Sorry that I can't help more. I received some hints that it may be a cache problem. So I cleared both Java and FF browser temp internet files. I thought I was onto something as both worked a couple of times if I cleared caches each time and restarted FF. But problem came back to stay for a while! ne_nau.gifHowever, I am able to use the Aurigma Java uploader for both Smugmug and Mpix using IE7:nah. Go figuire! Where are the Smugmug gurus when we need them?
